First time for back up

Tonight was the first time in ages that i can remember having to go to the van and get the spare "back up " amplifier.I was only getting sound from one side.A quick change and away i went ready for the b&g first dance.

Strange as it was working perfectly the night before

It goes to show the importance of carrying back up equipment,because you never know when its needed.

I think i should start to carry backup of more things

After my silly night when my peavey got knocked over it made me realise "What If" i think i was lucky that the peaveys i had was able to cope just using the one for the last 10mins of the night, but i always test everything the same day before going out on a gig, now i know that doesn't mean anything but it put me in more of a relaxed mind lol

Asking for trouble taking one amp.

I used a peavey 1500 for nearly 2 years and never had issues but still wouldnt dream of not taking a back up. How much effort is it really to load it into and from your van?

I often think of having one active next to me on every gig as going to the van would make me look like a right tool. :p they would probably not notice too much if it was a case of plugging a couple of cables. :)

Used my backup amp the other day for extra boost to the subs. Wont bother anymore. The problem is it only has one working channel so ideal for subs (bridged) but could always run in mono and series up the speakers if need be.

AT the end of the day there is a backup amp ready to go if need be.

Its not just old kit, I’ve had a new CD player fail on me after 2 outings!

Backup is essential...and EVERY DJ should carry at least a spare amp & playout (even if it's just a personal cd player or cheap MP3 player)

Those that don't carry an amp, what would you do if it failed on you an hour into the gig?

and as I posted before it does happen to other entertainers who fail to have another amp - and makes you realise the embarrassment and panic when it does.

One spare amp should be regarded as the minimum requirement for anyone using passives.

Carry 2nd passive PA (main PA is active), with complete 2nd playback in own flightcase.
I do not want to be the DJ that has to end the wedding celebrations as I couldn't be bothered with a backup.

Any good DJ should look at the essential parts of their rig, and work out how to continue the party when any random part fails.
Not worried about lighting, but mic/cables/mixer/amp/playback do need to have some kind of back up plan, even if its a MP3 player with a bunch of party classics and the 1st dance...

I carry a set of psr8 active speakers as back up and an sdj 1 as back up incase dp2 dont work.
keep a dell optiplex with a berry mixer in the van aswell

Not a big problem considering many DJ's do not carry any back up, yet we mainly play at 1-off occasions (ie weddings)

Far more use to newbies than Mackie vs RCF... :please:

Im actually getting wedding enquiries asking
"What back up equipment do you carry" alot
now.
(usually spare Mixer/Amp in one box)
or a minimum of a spare Power Amplifier.

I've always carried spare amp & playout to gigs, but it wasn't until a wedding a few weeks ago when my mic started playing up that I thought I should take more.

My mic lead was damaged, I had to wiggle the cable around while using the mic to make it work. So that weekend I looked at every little part of my rig, thought about every little thing that could go wrong and I now carry spare cables, a spare mic, spare amp, spare mixer.....
