Hi all

Looking at upgrading sound system. I'm looking for something comparable (in terms of output) to:

2 x Peavey UL15 and 2 x Peavey UL118
(http://www.dv247.com/pa-systems-and-live-sound/peavey-ul-15-passive-pa-speaker-4-ohm--75373 and http://www.emslonline.co.uk/view-product/1969)

Was thinking something along the lines of HK Audio or DB Technologies.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any input...

Start saving.

To get the power middle and bass end you get from that Peavey Set up with a name like HK, DB or RCF you are talking mega money.

If thats ok get down to your local DJ shop for some demos, spending that kind of money you will get the red carpet treatment.

I would recommend any you have mentioned inc. RCF.

I'd have to vote for a HK system.

Whether it's one of their active systems or if budget doesn't allow the premium pro range ( http://hkaudio.com/series.php5?section=ps&id=2&ser=PREMIUM%20PR:O ) is pretty punchy.

Personally I'd steer well clear of the newer HK stuff. It seems to be lacking quality and it is big bucks compared to other PA. Soundwise it is somehow thinner than the older stuff. Unreliability is also high on the list if you read other forums or look at honest descriptions for s/h items on Ebay. The back up / warranty service is also poor from their distributors.

RCF, very nice but the tops on the 7 series lack bottom end.

Not a problem as you will need some serious bass cabs to match the Peaveys.

Looks like an expensive exercise to me, the Peaveys are £1800+;)

Hi again guys.

Ok, so I think I'm looking at the below packages:

dB Technologies Arena 12-18 Powerpack Active System - £2600

http://www.e-av.co.u...12-18-powerpack

HK AUDIO ELIAS PX SYSTEM - £2588
http://www.bem-music...st.pl?id=108929

HK AUDIO PREMIUM PR:O SET 12/18 - £1430
http://www.thomann.d...ium_pro_set.htm

HK AUDIO PREMIUM PR:O SET 15/18 - £1390

http://www.thomann.d...ro_set_1518.htm

SET OF PEAVEY UL MESSENGERS
2 x UL15, 2 x UL118, 1 x PV3800 Amp - Around £2500

Obviously the HK Premium Sets don't include any amplifiers, so I'm assuming I may need to spend about another £500 on amp(s) - any suggestions here?

What set would you recommend from the above in terms of: output, volume, quality, brand name etc

My budget is fairly tight, and I don't really want to spend more than the £2000 mark, so the Pro sets are attractive. However, if opinion has it that its worth spending the extra to jump up to the more expensive sets, I could try and stretch to that.

Thanks for any suggestions....

I'm sure it's just an oversight and you missed my first reply to you here (which explains everything):-

In regards to the HK range (they do a 12/18 and 15/18) I've heard some people say - steer clear of 12/18, 18 frequency too low, and will miss the punch of a 15. On the other hand, have heard some people say 15/18 combo that 15" tops can sometimes start to struggle at the upper frequency limit of the 15" driver.

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers
