I'm not willy waving just seems like a good price?
The problem is I cannot seem to find any prices for this system and its only the sub bit.
Not on google shopping at all.

Looks like a bargain to me I'm not sure of prices but you've got a quality item for no more than the cost of a mediocre amp, as long as it's in good working order I think you've done very well.

Arent they specific to HK- ie the sub is designed to work with the HK speakers?

Me too - the only thing that would concern me is the fact that the seller has no feedback at all.

I have used my LD system which is similar with my RCF 310's and they are louder and punchier then when i used and amp as the output is 4 ohms. I was very pleased with that as i was not expecting that. I have another 50 watts to play with and a much better digital amp.

I will run both the LD and HK together and have the top end coming out of the HK. for larger gigs I will use four speakers and open both subs up. The LD holds its own and i have not had an issue so the HK should be much better.

Seems OK? He has already contacted me and said he is posting tomorrow (already paid).

So what are these systems worth second hand? I estimated about £500 ish and got it for less than i thought considering the interest.

Probably what Daren said

Not in the one you have just bought you won't, it's the old LUCAS 1000, there are no digital amps in them. The picture you have posted is of the new LUCAS Max.

The new range have digital amps and the replacement for the 1000 is the Performer (http://hkaudio.com/products.php5?section=ps&id=4&prod=L.U.C.A.S%20Performer).

The HK Audio range are excellent IMHO, ideal for a mobile DJ, the old LUCAS was good but has been around a while.

Personally, much as I like the kit, nearly £400 for a well used sub that doesn't have the protective cover, doesn't have the tops, has probably been well used and is being bought from someone without any feedback doesn't strike me as a bargain. I hope I'm wrong.

Its a good thing to have as if your other speaker or amp goes you have instant back up.
Just a matter of unplugging a couple of bits.

I have the HK 1000 full system, I've had it 3 years and it is the perfect little system for smaller gigs. Mine may be up for sale shortly, just serviced and new paint job, it's now lovely new black instead of the old grey.

I saw that e-bay listing. I thought that it was a little misleading. It gives the impression that it is a 1000w sub, but it is only a 600w sub. The other 400w are split between the two satalites making it a 1000w for the total system.

Having said that, for 600w it is a pretty good output sub.

The way I see it my LD system is good enough do this should definitely be. :)

it's the old analogue Hk 1000 sub for sure - I looked at the Ebay item myself. Much nicer than the coarse sounding newer 'digital/neo' equipment they throw together. It's a very old one though (the newer ones had a silver badge with ports at the bottom of the sub). To get the right output you'll need to turn all three gains up to the 12 o clock position. HK audio told me that this was OK and it wouldn't damage the two satellite amps if no tops were connected. So, if you can get hold of a couple of 4 ohm tops, you've a nice little system there. If you haven't done so already, take the back off and clean out the fans. They will 'thermal' if the fans get too blocked.

Not sure if I have any touch up paint left for HK stuff (I sold all my HK equipment this year). If I have, you can have some if you want.

Will be posted back tomorrow. He did not seem too bothered about it?
Probably not the price he wanted to sell it for or it was broken before.

although his communication, delivery and everything else was spot on :)

Firstly I have had 2 of these and still own 1.

If it is wired right it should give sub bass without any top speakers when fed a signal through the xlr inputs.
If not then there may be 3 reasons why...

1..the bass driver is goosed or a connection has come loose(they are only small spade connectors)

2..(most likely)The bass amp power transistors(Darlington Pairs) are blown.(needs a qualified audio repair)

3.. The gain on the tops is turned to 0(needs turning to the 12oclock on both channels).

Hope this helps,

Paul

That HK sub is designed to be used with the pair of matching satalites.
All three, when used together are a perfect match and sound pretty awesome in the right sized venue.
The sub on it's own won't play ball with mis-matched tops, or even be very loud on it's own (as you demonstrate).
When you crank the HK sub I'ts not supposed to be loud. You are quite happily talking over it. But I bet your neighbours could hear it 2 or 3 doors down.
I am sure that someone else could explain base speaker matching and sound technicalities better than me. But from what I know of my system, there seems to be nothing wrong with your HK Sub, you just need to use it with the correct tops, that's all.

Ah OK. I am sending it back anyway It will be picked up in a minute.

I definitely think that there is something wrong with it. I went to a small club on sat and they has the exact system and it was thumping the bass out, admittedly with the HK tops. I know the RCF are 8ohms but I do not have any issues with the LD sub and it should be more audiable than that IMO. And definitely not clipping at that level. Alex came round (DJ) and agreed that it did not sound right. I think it is one of the three mentioned before.

I already have my eye on something else. i might even have another LD dave as I really like it, and its perfect for the application i use it (ie small country houses/hotels).

It still should have kicked 100Hz and below out of that sub, even with the tops not connected, lots of people I know use this as a bass sub only.
listening and looking at the video again I see the 2 left gains were center which is correct so bass at a good volume should have been present.

it is officially ......Goosed.

The owner used it with active or possibly passive mackies I think so it was not used with the right speaker anyway.

Thanks. I was pretty sure. I think it is something on the board.
I was actually thinking on the way back tonight was I an idiot but I really think it is broken. They were in the centre and the clip lights were coming on which is not good.

Oh well. I was looking forward to that and its it proper let down.
Better it does not work now than a month down the line I guess. :)

Right this guy is adiment that this system is in full working order.

He wants me to pay for the transport back to him and then again back to me (£100).
I am definitely not going to do this if it is broken!

Have another look HK boffins.

YouTube - HK NOT WORKING

I have heard this exact speaker in a sailsbury nighclub not much bigger than my front room and it was hammering the bass out! this was the night before I bought it too.

I have opended a case with ebay do you think this is definitely broken considering its clipping and i am talking over it.

It is definitely not right for a sub of that standard.

No feed back ...joined august this year its not looking good.
On topic ive used the same system for 2 years in a pub
( not my gear) and your units definately jiggered!
on the odd ocaision i ran without tops ( when the lazy
landlord forgot to twist the speakons) the bin would still kick out
alot of bass....good luck with your returns
On a personal side im not a fan of this style of system as a
fault in the bass bin tend to be very inconvenient!
the plus side?... On the Sunday quiz we didnt need our trousers flapping so i simply turned up with a mixer amp and jacked into the tops....
that actually sounded very very good alone !
good luck / Ebay stinks

To be fair to ebay--which im not usually--YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO SPEAKERS.

Chances of a refund are less than zero--the seller will claim they were working perfectly im afraid.

Nothing new:mad:

I have to agree it seems knackered to me.

Ive got a simmiler HK system, the one time i tried it in the house, ornaments were falling off shelves from the bass vibration, and it was barely turned up.

Always a bit risky buying used speakers via ebay, but ive had to request a refund via paypal a couple of times, and ive always got it.

The guy was pretty good and took it straight back. He sent it very quickly too which was great!

I started a dispute and they gave me an imediate refund after i sent them proof that it had been sent back. :)

After what most of you have said and consultations with a few other HK owners
(+ eye witness account from Alex Entertainment just after I did the video) there is definitely something wrong with it.

Shame I was really looking forward to using it. :(

I would like to add some input if possible dont worry its not buy an rcf sub.

The other week a dj who i know asked me if i could have a look at one of his subs although its not a HK sub. It was indeed a DB Technologies sub 15
and i hooked it up and the sub was doing the same thing as what its showing in your video

The guy took it into a dealer and he was told it was a broken magnet on the speaker. It may be possibly be the same thing on the HK Sub.

The sub may have been damaged before in transit or in transit.

Thats what I thought and him, but on return he said it was like that before he posted it to me and said that thats how it should sound

I have heard allot of subs in my life including this one in a similar environment (the night before I bought this) and they thump the bass out at one meter. It was clipping too at that level which is not right.

as Dave said I was expecting things too fall off tables as my LD one does - but nothing!
I do not believe the (my neighbours could hear it) thing as I went outside and i could hear nothing at clip level!

The actual sub in question if this sub is the subwoofer part of a Lucas 1000
then there is definetely something wrong with the sub.

Ive had a HK Audio Lucas 1000 myself and even when not used with the satellite speakers you could still hear the bass coming from the sub. For one gig i used the sub with a pair of Mackie SRM450s connected to the link through on the HK Sub
