200 a year is only 4 nights a week so still only just over half the available time, Full time work would be 5 a week, every week.
I am not happy if I work less than 4 a week

Depends mate, sometimes it's just friday and saturday and other times it's 4, maybe 5 a week. This year has been a weird one as there have been a couple of weeks where I have done nothing and then it's mad with lots of midweek stuff and heavy weekends too.

Does it actually make any difference how many gigs you do a year? Taken in isolation its irrelevant, factor in average take, and net earnings after expenses and you might be getting somewhere!

I do around (myself around 150) and then i give around 30 gigs to other djs i know cause i am double booked. Dec being busiest month with 22 booking and 4 giving to other djs.

Personally if I HAD to do over 200 gigs a year to survive, I would have to rethink my pricng and how I could upsell services.

For me, not including midweek residencies I have 109 this year - and about fully booked for the year now, apart from this weekend :confused: .

I set my prices based on 90 gigs a year, price accordingly, and everything else is a bonus.

I suppose that depends what you want to earn, I dont just want to survive, I want to live and lets face it, a full time job is 40 hours a week and even doing 5 discos a week does not get anywhere near 40 hours, so I suppose its what your definition of Full-time is? :muppet:

If you read my whole post though. You do 243 gigs a year so must be charging on average less than £271 a gig. Would it not be prefereable to do less gigs for the same or less money ???

The max turnover allowed before having to be vat registered is £66000. This divided by the stated 243 gigs, give an amount of £271 (give or take). So if the average was higher then this he must be vat registered.

I would not disagree, the backgound work is time consuming and I forget to count that side sometimes, but as someone said earlier in the post, its not how many you do, its what your profit is.
Also it depends what sort of money you want to earn, I am above average in the area cost wise so I dont see how I could put my prices up but if I di and I still did the same amount of shows, I would be even richer..:p :beer1:

Like I said hours ago, it doesn't matter how many gigs you do, ask Sid, he's out 5 times a week for £60!, if he did one gig for £300 he'd still earn the same! Plus have a lot more time to himself!

Do you Dj Angela?I do not and would never class myself as a DJ, but I have been known to do the odd gig here or there for specific clients (so long as the kit is set up for me).

Plus, I go out on kids parties with someone else. I'm usually the one out on the floor whilst the DJ is behind the decks, but for some points during the gig, the roles can and are reversed.

As a student (up until last summer) and part-time DJ: 29 gigs per year on average. They're fairly well paid though.
