Wanted just for background music for wedding ceremonies etc.

I want something that looks fairly 'elegant' (if there is such a thing) and I was thinking maybe tabletop?

It doesn't need to be all singing all dancing, and must be simple to use, as it will be the end user pressing the buttons.

Big buttons an advantage, and as I said, simple to use, reliable and plays CDrs etc

Any opinions on this?

Not really - it's actually just for the ceremony music, so it will be the conference and banqueting staff pressing buttons.

Oh I see... well if there is a Richer Sounds near you, you should be able to pick up a full size table top at a good price. I bought a Technics CD player for £80 there, 9 years ago, and it is still working perfectly. And I've had it out at gigs before, dropped it a couple of times, and used it loads at home for personal use :)

I was thinking more along the lines of something like this http://www.decks.co.uk/products/cdplayers/citronic/cds2 which has big buttons on, if you see what I mean?

Ah I see, but then you are paying unnecessary ££s for :

±8, 12, 16% Pitch Shift Selectable
Pitch Lock
Pitch Bend Buttons
Full Cue Editing Facilities

?

True, but I want the buttons on the top so it is easy to operate, and I think they look slightly nicer than a standard domestic player.

Or maybe not?

What do you think?

You think hotel staff could resist playing with the pitch control?

Looking it the other way round: non-professionals will be more familiar with the controls on a domestic player

It's the asthetics I'm particularly interested in.

It needs to be functional and easy to use, but must look reasonably nice too.

What would look better in your opinion, tabletop, or domestic?

I still have a set of Denon players in a flightcase, but thought that would be overkill.

I reckon a nice domestic would be better. I can imagine one of the hall staff getting confused with all the extra "dj" options and messing up the ceremony music somehow. Keep it simple and there's less to go wrong.

Well, obviously it depends on how they are presented, but I've always had a bit of a problem with tabletop kit - I can't get past the feeling that they are toys (I know they're not before anyone says anything).... but that's just my personal problem with it. :embarasse

Why not use a personal cd player then any fool can work it then :teeth:

I can understand what you're saying Darren, but I think you may regret getting one with pitch shift/bend, as Steve has pointed out! :teeth:

So, what do we think then, domestic would look better?

Less bits to confuse them

Have you looked at a remote control for a domestic player though? :omg:

Ah - so you envisage people using it by remote control?

Possibly - the buttons are quite recessed on domestic player aren't they?

Come on then, start making a useful suggestion.

My domestic one is a recorder, I have no experience of any other current models. Sorry :embarasse

The Numark Axis 2 is good - it is a tabletop player, cheap for a proper "DJ" one, the pitch control can be disabled and it has massive buttons. Fun fun.
