Bottom left there is button that has two arrows in an oval. Click it and gray it out. It will only play one track at a time now.

You're right, iTunes isn't able to do what you want easily. It's yet another Apple interface blunder.
Here are some workarounds:
- Drag the song over to the playlist bar (so that you have a playlist of one song). Delete the playlist when you're done.
- Enter the song title into the search box until only the one you want is displayed (or is at least at the bottom of the list), then select and play.
- Ctrl-click the track and show song file. Put the Finder window into column mode and play it from the preview.
-or Just type the full name of the track, with the artist name into the spotlight search in the top right of iTunes...

Andy....for instance.... I'm playing a tune on Itunes that I have recently downloaded....
I then want to switch to BPM which is the programme I use for my hard drive.I am not hanging about for the pause button on Itunes so I can stop the next one in the Library coming on....
Switching it to the side in its own playlist solves the problem(someone mentioned it earlier too...thanks) ....
But for the life of me why hasn't it come with the fasciliity to end the current track it is playing from the library...words fail me!!

in "music" top option, double click track to play, simple it will stop after that. Failing that, click "edit", "preferences", go to playback and untick "crossfade" songs....

You know what the next time you ask for help I will ignore it.
Yes as usual you are probably not explaining yourself very well.
I am not posting this to help myself and replying like that is not necessary.

That is what it does.
EDIT -> SELECT ALL
Right click on a song and click Uncheck
Then check the specified song by right clicking. Works for me anyway...

Click it again lol. One state is play once and stop, next is play all once and the last is repeat play list.

No problem.
I think you have a different version to the rest of us? Mine is mac 10.0.1
have a look at below. If the repeat button is off (bottom left - on in this picture.)
It will stop after that track if you unselect the other tracks playing (which was what I said on page one):

When all is said and done Mate....I think thats really poor of the system.A Toggle buton is required...surely most of their Customers are DJ's....Nipping from track to track on various systems.

Eh?
500 million ACTIVE subscribers by 2007 ... which was a LONG time ago in the digital world ... probably more like a billion by now. Possibly a lot more

Itunes would probably have developed some DJ interface by now but it does not need to as
almost all the main software reads Itunes playlists now and presumably pay Apple a fee to do so.
Its win win for them really.
Its just a piece of playout media which is based around the store (ie ca-ching £$).
I love the fact I sort out my playlist get to a gig, load up serato itch and there it is. so handy. :)
Much easier than transfering to harddrives of SD cards, or worse CD'S. God i remember the day :(
i could not imagine having to go to HMV every week to buy all the new releases. What a pain!

sure you know about it but just in case its the best mac has to offer for the cost vs simplicity of use. you can set playlist, auto sync, effects the lot.
