Starting to panic now

The snow situation is not getting any better here, my disco wagon is well and truly stuck in the driveway and the coucnil won't be gritting my road. I have 2 big gigs this weekend and I am wondering if I should pre-warn my clients that I may be stuck. The Friday night gig should be fine as I just have to bring my plackyback but Saturday requires the works. The venue is up a steep hill on a cobbled road of things continue like this, I have no idea how I am going to make it. Even if I could rent a 4 x 4, I am watching land rovers struggle to get up the hill outside my work - it is a mircale the buses are still running in some parts of the city!

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

A courtesy call just to warn them might be a great idea.
You may even learn in return that the staff, clients & guests are facing the same difficulties and may lead to postponement.

I had a Wedding yesterday that was decimated by the snow numbers wise. Ended up with 17 guest for the majority of thenight and my Wedding for tomorrow has been moved to Sunday.

have three gigs this weekend and things seem to be getting worse here in Dublin. The bus services have been stopped in the city even. I know the band who are doing tomorrow nights gig can also do dj so that a backup plan and the other two nights are on main routes so hopefully....

I have just returned from a trip out. An artic got stuck in front of me, despite a tractor on the front, and a loading shovel pushing!!:eek: :eek: Cue me reversing half a mile to go for plan B. That road had packed snow six inches deep in the middle, and two tracks for the wheels. Anything smaller than my bus would have struggled. Grim. :( :(

Edit: Main roads immediately round here not at all bad, just the side ones.

We've been in Glasgow the last two nights, travelled back this morning. The Forth road bridge was closed so had to divert via Kingcarden. Other than that there were no real problems. Had a few lorrys flying past in the snow covered outside lanes though!

Our first xmas gig is on Friday and isnt far away, but i'll still be checking with the hotel that they are going ahead before i travel.

Luckily all can be rearranged but still a hell of a loss for me.

You have to consider though that if you are not able to make it, neither will guests. Also is your vehicle, or potentially you yourself, worth risking for a few hundred pounds for a gig ???

If the gig is cancelled, fair enough. You should still be paid if you have the right clauses in your Ts & Cs, and you can still look like the good guy for rebooking a future date at a big discount, subject to availability.

But if the gig goes ahead, you gotta get there by hook or by crook! Even if you show up with an active, a laptop and an impossibled stuffed in a wheelbarrow, you gotta get there!

I got snow tyres fitted last Monday. Glad I did. But still worried. I never want to miss a gig. Got to be in New Cumnock (travelling from Edinburgh) this month. Will give myself 6 hours to get there.

Taxis refuse to come within half a mile of my street so it's going to be tough if I have to walk to one with all that gear. I feel really sorry for you guys up North and it is in situations like these that sort the wheat from the chaff when you here the sort of dedication that some guys are willing to go to to get to the gig.Well done.

The only thing stopped me getting to Edinburgh today mate was they closed part of the M8, my transit seems to handle it o.k'ish and the main problem for me is actually getting to the main road, which to be fair is only a few 100 yards. If it's that bad even a 4x4 will struggle. Keep the faith mate :D

If time is on your side, a helper or two armed with shovels would be invaluable. Peter also posted a good suggestion in another thread - carrying a big bag of rock salt or grit with you.

Hopefully the snowfall will ease a bit, although temperatures are due to plummet I think :(

And even he has just admitted defeat. :( :( :o :o A local farmer ploughed our lane previously , and it's filled in level with the sides overnight. I got half a mile up the road, and ground to a halt. Frenzied shovelling, and reverse back home!:eek: :eek:

Well, we've finally been hit hard here in Hampshire and it's pretty rough this morning.
I have 2 gigs at my residency this weekend and the forecast is bad. The venue is a 5 minute drive away so no matter what, I will be getting there because in my view, as long as I get there and set up then it shows I am prepared to do my thing. If the venue cancel then the charges come into action. I hope the guests can get there and don't miss out on their parties because of this.

Yes - the show MUST go on whenever possible - BUT take care, think about what you're doing, make back up plans, take care of yourselves, your clients and their guests.

I had todays Wedding at Shottle Hall moved to Sunday, a phonecall from tomorrows Hotel (Dovecliff Hall) saying that the corporate party was definately ON, then Saturday I'm over Nottingham way at the Carriage Hall so hopefully it'll ease off today.

At least my road has been ploughed today and I stand a good chance of getting up the hill :D

My clients wedding is still going ahead on Saturday, I called the hotel and they seemed amused at my question of whether or not it is going ahead. All the guests are local. I am quite literally only going to be able to take what I can carry on a near 1 mile walk to the main road and in a taxi, I just hope my speakers don't get water damage. I don't know whether I should be feeling bad or good for still going ahead. This sucks!

I have been digging for 2 hours per day to keep the road clear.

Today i was driving all over dalkeith, edinburgh, falkirk and stirling, as well as livi, armadale and blackridge....it was great fun :) I got stuck once in Dalkeith but free'd myself without a push after 5 mins....Oh and i have a corsa!!!! great fun.

Was funny when i drove past the AA man who was stuck, i asked if he wanted a hand to push but his mate was coming to tow him :)

I have a wedding on sat night and thw venue is about 10 minutes away. With the weather been as bad as what it is at the moment

Ive planned it all out. In this snow it would be unsafe using my box trailer in the current weather so its been arranged. My mother works for her friends florist as a delivery driver and is insured to drive her van its A Citroen Berlingo so using that.

The hotel my original arrival time was 5:30pm - 6:00pm for a 7:30pm start. But now im going to the hotel for 4:30pm. the room is available for 5:00pm it will also give the gear time to get back to room temperature.

After my hd2500 problem last friday through condensation.
