Did the first of 12 christmas parties last night at my residency and thought I would post a little review featuring the positives and negatives.
I set up in the morning and went back for 7.00pm. I got a list of the different companies in the room from the manager so that I could give them all a shout out when I was due to start later on. The Christmas playlist went on and I chilled out for the next 2 hours, going backwards and forwards, making sure everything was ok, volume was enough etc etc..
I noticed that out of 100 people, there was 1 bloke!! It was a mixture of twenty-somethings, forty-somethings and one table of ladies in their sixties/seventies. I recognised some faces from last year and heard a comment as I walked past one of the tables which made me smile. "That's the DJ from last year, great!" said the voice.
I was stood in reception when a group of around 6 girls came through the door. All were in big coats with wellies on which made me laugh. They asked where the loos were and 5 minutes later they all came back changed into their party gear and they looked lovely.
Around 9.15pm I gave each table a shout out to see who was the loudest, making jokes as to who I should keep an eye on and the atmosphere was set instantly with everyone up for it. The table of older ladies more or less had their meals and then left but I expected that for some reason as they didn't really look that comfortable.
Music for the night was really run of the mill christmas party stuff. Current Chart stuff, 70s, 80s, Indie, Rock and some cheesy bits and bobs, finishing off with Mariah Carey and then The Pogues. All in all a great first night.
So, the negatives....well, not really that many to be honest but....Tonights party is in another part of the hotel because the room I was in last night is being used for a British Legion dinner thing and they aren't having a Disco. It meant that I had to move the whole rig to the new location and set it all up again which was a pain in the backside.
Also, a number of girls were asking for a track last night that I had not heard of. I like to keep on top of things but this one has passed me by. The genre is 'Bashment' and the song is called 'Egyptian'. I listened to it on a girls phone last night and I don't think it would've been suitable anyway but lots of girls were asking for it (young, clubby type girls).
Lastly, I decided to walk home last night. It was absolutely chucking it down and was very slippery. About 2 minutes from my house I slipped on the ice and took a big chunk out of my shin. My first Disco related war wound of the year!
Hope everyone is having a good run.
