Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I had a quick hunt about but could not really find the answer maybe one of you could point me in the right direction...


What equipment do I want to start collecting for mixing? do I want cd mixers or some kind of laptop that has software loaded? basically looking to somewhat future proof myself so are cd mixers still what DJ's use?


I am a bit oldskool and use to have Gemini tables with Stanton scratch needles playing 45's and the odd 33 so sorry for the obviously daft question :daft:

There are many different options available now, from CD players, to midi controllers (Denon DN-HC4500 etc) and from HDD Media Players (Denon DN-HD2500, Cortex HDC-1000 etc) to timecoded vinyls for use on your existing turntables.

You may find posting a thread in the 'Mobile Disco Forum' part of the forum will help you get the information you are after!

What sort of music do you want to mix? And what format do you have it in at the moment - CD, Vinyl or MP3? Might have a bearing on what direction you take re new gear.

Hey Funkymook,

I use to do a lot of rap/hiphop, miami bass, dancehall (I grew up in Jamaica) but I pretty much play for the crowd.

I started buying records and messing about when I was 13 and by the time I was 16 I was known to many sounds, the largest party I played at had about 2000 people which was pretty awesome.

Music format will prob be CD's & MP3 as I gave all my records away when i was younger
