A while ago I offered free leads to anyone who could use them, the deal was I would send them to whoever asked for them and all I asked for in return was reimbursement of the postage costs.

A few of you took up the offer, and silly stupid me made the mistake of posting them out and then expecting the postage to be sent to me. I assumed that because we were all DJ's together on this forum that people would honour their word, after all they were getting free equipment.

This is aimed at one DJ, Rowley, and I am posting it here because my PM's have been ignored, as have my requests for payment of the postage costs I incurred. For the sake of £4.58 (yes I didn't even round it up, charge you for packing, or for the trouble of going to the post office), you have made me think twice about ever doing anything like this again.

I will say this, you are a liar, you never sent the postage, you claimed it was sent recorderd, yet when I asked you to check with the post office (because it hasn't been received) you suddenly stopped replying to my PM's (and I have sent a few).

And just to be clear, it's not the £4.58 that annoyed me, it's the fact I trusted you to honour your word, and to anyone who has dealings with Rowley make sure you get paid in advance, otherwise you probably wont see the money.

JTRS

PS Apologies to the forum for airing dirty laundry in public but I really feel that other members should be aware that not everyone on this forum is as good as their word!

Dont see why it should be really- if this is true why not give JTRS the opportunity to warn others about this, as long as Rowleys gets a chance to reply.....

I thought about that before I made the posting, and I also apologised for airing it in public, but not everyone is a member so a posting in the members section would not warn everyone that an individual cannot be trusted.

Charlie waits for this thread to be closed or deleted...

Comments like that are not constructive, I did check with a moderator BEFORE I made this posting and was told that providing the thread didn't gain legs (ie people posting unhelpful comments) that it would remain unlocked.

JTRS - i can understand were you are coming from here - its not about the money but the fact that you trusted someone and they have let you down. What has happened here by the persons stupidity is that you are now very unlikely to make a similar offer in future and also maybe put others off doing the same thing.

I hope you get it sorted

Im having a similar issue now with a forum member(I must add, its not Rowley), and its a fair bit more than what Rowley owes JTRS...but ive no wish to name and shame. :)

What i will say, is that I have PM'ed them, and havnt had a reply.

I can appreciate that people get skint, and work dries up as ive been there and had that issue, but a acknowledgement would be nice and some sort of nominal repayment structure would help me out greatly. ;)

EDIT/UPDATE - Said member has been in touch...many thanks for the PM mate :) :beer1:

I've deleted the off-topic posts on this thread.

Simon asked me if he could post this thread, because all other means of communication are being ignored.

The forum does not get involved in private transactions, but I agreed to let this one go ahead - but stated that it would be closed if it 'grew legs'.

I would like to leave it long enough for Rowley to have the right of reply, but if it takes off, I will have to delete it.

Simon, I have done something similar in the past. A couple of items which were of little or no use to me, were sent off to forum menbers, and all I asked for was delivery costs. Didn't happen. :(

Such cases are thankfully in the tiny minority, but it leaves an umpleasant taste in the mouth. :(

woops I have not long got out of bed and by "leads" I initialy thaught you meant sales leads (by way of a booking form posted or something), now it has just clicked that you literally mean 'leads' lol :daft: .

Thanks for the heads up. I have some gear I am considering getting rid of, I was thinking about advertising here, ebay it is.

Steve I totally agree with that sentiment, I had no problem with payments from other members of this forum, sadly, there is usually one bad apple in any bunch, and I now know that other forum members have also had problems with the same person, had I known about his character beforehand I would have insisted on payment up front.

This won't stop me doing things like this again, but I'll just be careful not to trust everyone in future.

£4.58 doesn't actually mean that much to me, but I'd be ashamed if I'd lost my good name and reputation whatever the amount was.

Hundreds, or even thousands of transactions have gone through following advertisements on the forum without any problems.

It's tempting to think you can trust members more than you can some random member on the likes of ebay, but (with notable exceptions) many of us don't really know each other.

Therefore, it's always wise to employ some caution and treat it as any other sale/purchase at arms length - ie make sure you have 'conditions' in writing; send payment/goods by a traceable method; where possible, collect goods so that they can be seen/heard working; and.....never send goods without having received payment first.

I have some gear I am considering getting rid of, I was thinking about advertising here,

This is a good place to advertise and no listing fees :)

You have to advertise here before selling it anywhere else (ie a week before putting it on ebay). :)

Corabar Entertainment

You have to advertise here before selling it anywhere else (ie a week before putting it on ebay). :)Not quite correct, Toby.

You can't advertise here by giving a link to an ebay auction: you must have a forum-specific listing which must contain a price, and not just ask for offers.

If you haven't sold it within a week, you can add a link to your ebay auction.

(If you wanted to advertise it for sale in a hundred places at the same time, that's up to you)

Because it is a benefit to members and no fees are charged, only people who have been members for at least 3 months and have at least 100 posts are allowed to list items. The only exception to this is if you become a supporting member (£1 a month - details here (http://www.forum.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5104)). All supporting members - regardless of number of posts / length of membership - are allowed to post items for sale.

Hope that clarifies the rules for everyone. :)

I don't think it is off topic or unfair for me to add I too have had issues with the mentioned forum member who has ignored my emails and PMs. I purchased something from him through the For Sale section of this website which is not as he advertised. He promised to sort it out but still hasn't and this is weeks on from the transaction. When this happens, what else can you do but share this information with others and hope that they don't get stung as well. Ideally he will read this and make amends, nobody is perfect and things go on in life. Enough is enough though and I think I have been very patient.

First of all, I wouldn't recommend anyone use Royal Mail's Recorded Delivery service (the orange stickers). All it is a proof of posting (which you can get a free proof-of-posting receipt from the Post Office counter anyway) and a signature at the other end. Royal Mail make no guarantee that the item will (ever) be delivered and the item is not insured for loss/damage whilst in the care of Royal Mail. A lot of people think the Recorded Delivery service means they item will reach it's destination but that's not the case. I'd always recommend the use of the Special Delivery service as this does guarantee your delivery and the item is insured.

Anyway, now that that's cleared up, is there any update on this situation? Has Rowley looked in to this thread yet?

Correct. A few times I have been to the counter and the lady has asked if I want special delivery as recorded only gets a signature if the item actually arrives at where it is going.

It was the fact that I sent you a few PM's that you never responded to that forced my hand on to posting openly on this forum.

I told you on day one that I do not use Paypal, hence why I asked you to post the money to me.

I do not want the leads back, nor do I want overpaying. What would "shut me up" would be to actually receive back from you the cost of the postage that I incurred in sending you something that you requested.

I also note that you now say that you sent a £5 note, yet when I originally advised you that I hadn't received anything you said it was coins and blamed the postman for 'feeling the coins and not delivering'

Signed for by anyone - correct

Guarantee of delivery - incorrect

Uninsured - incorrect

The guarantee of delivery is the cost of the Recorded service (60-odd pence IIRC) and the insurance is up to the value of 100 first class standard stamps, therefore currently £40.

I won't direct this to any single individual, but could all members not directly involved with a dispute with Rowley take a step back and not add their opinions in this thread. As Angela has already pointed out, if this thread takes off and people start replying that are not involved then the thread will just be closed/deleted. Let's just leave it to the people involved to sort it out (i.e. Rowley and any other member awaiting a resolution to their dispute).

Thanks. :)

I really have no wish to see this forum dragged down, nor was it my intention to cause additional work for the moderators in having to watch/edit a particular thread.

Like I said, I don't care about the postage costs the money isn't the issue, and I now know that I am not the only member to have had problems with Rowley, which I think speaks for itself, as does the way in which he answered the concerns.

Finally I would like to thank Angela (in particular) and the mods as a whole, I know you don't usually allow postings regarding individual disputes but given the circumstances there really wasn't an alternative.

Agreed. In my similar case, ( not dealing with Rowley, by the way. ) it wasn't the amount, but the principle.

Angela, your words are wise and well put. The note of caution is sensible. Perhaps the fact that we are dealing with fellow forum members sometimes makes us a little less careful than is wise. I can honestly say that in 99.99% of my dealings with forum members I have been treated splendidly.

I would like to thank you for first contacting the moderators and secondly starting this thread. I started a thread in the forum suggestions section a couple of week's ago which was hinting at this but I never followed it through. It would be great if we can come up with some sort of fair rating system but I guess even that would be open to abuse.

I really don't want to drag people's names through the mud and I know the moderator's quite rightly will not get involved in transactions going wrong. I feel you have been very adult about this and I hope this has opened people's eyes to what can happen when a forum member abuses your trust. It is very easy to think of this place as one big faimly of Djs wanting to communicate, share and learn. This has certainly been a valuable lesson for me and has made me question my trusting nature. It is just one bad experience for me on here out of hundreds of good ones, I will just get to know people a bit better before parting with cash. Hopefully others can learn from this too.
