VDJ Pro - External Sound Card - Hurcules Mixer - Windows 7

Can anyone help me?

I’m a children’s entertainer so I only really do kids discos using VDJ or OTTSDJ with a playlist that plays itself while I do magic, balloon twisting and games etc. However, I have been asked to do a 30th for a friend of a friend and thought I’d have a crack at it.

I want to be able to listen to deck 2 while playing deck 1… so, I bought a Hercules digital mixer from Maplin along with a BEST external sound card. I already have the latest VDJ Pro installed so it should be straight forward…. I have set the external soundcard as defalt (tried 5.1 & 7.1) and I have gone into config on VDJ to set up speakers into front and headphones into rear. However, I can only get sound out of the speakers with the primary deck being controllable using digital deck volume control and jog wheel etc – The problem is the secondary deck also plays through the speakers really loud with no control from digital decks and nothing through headphones?

Tried everything (other than throwing whole lot out of the window) any ideas?

Running windows 7 if that matters?

Sorry you haven't had a reply to this yet. This is really not my area, so I'm no help at all, especially as I know nothing about these controllers. :( :( :o :o

All I can say is that VDJ is normally quite logical to set up sound cards. Even I managed to set uo a DJ IO with it.

I think the fault may lie in where you're assigning the channels.

Login to the VDJ forum. They are really good at sorting this sort of thing out.
They have lots of people who use every combination of kit.

Ill have a play about tommorow and see if i can sort this problem out mate as it shouldn't be anything too hard just a couple of setting's as all your doing is splitting the channels like you are using 2 cdj's/decks etc etc

If I was you, I'd bin the Hercules as it's a toy product.
How can these be used as a professional product for professional DJ's.
I use a sound blaster extreme PCMCIA card and I have no problem whatsoever running all channels to my mixing desk.
Having been running this set-up for 2 years and (touch wood) it's never let me down.
I can even assign one of the channels for a pre out, so I can preview a track whilst the other two decks are working.

While thats all good the OP asked HOW he could split the channels on VDJ ;) so he could listen to deck 1/2 while the other is playing, abit like i can on my cortex hdc1000 and others can on there setup etc etc

If its what I'm thinking you need to set the soundcard to your BEST and tell it your linking to an external mixer and that you have two channels deck1 and deck 2.
