now on page 12 of google, only ever had one booking through it in over a year
and thats money down the drain

Vistaprint sucks is there any other good alternatives needs to be a site were its easy to set up and easy to sort the seo:(

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but various members on here do this sort of thing for a living.

Well there are a few on here who are excellent at web design ( you know who you are ( :D )
But if you want a cheap way.

You will need.
A web hosting package.

One MY SQL database. ( with above package)

And either wordpress (http://wordpress.org/) or Joomla (http://www.joomla.co.uk/) , there are loads of free templates for both of these.
Easy to install , with loads of third party add in`s.

I've found wordpress fairly easy to get to grips with. I'm using Joomla for my main site, but recently created a simple website for my local pub using word press (wheaty.co.uk)

This is relativly easy to install, and once installed, adding plug-ins/templates is actually fairly simple.

I would advise to got for some kind of content management system, as opposed to getting a web guy to build a static website (where you need a techie to make any changes to content).

So, for a small website, my advice would be to get a custom template created for Wordpress, or get an "off-the-shelf" template and ask someone to help customise with your local etc.

One of my other "side lines" is that I'm a Web Developer (mainly ecommerce, but sometimes interesting projects) - I'm not a designer, so a codering and graphic tweaks only.
My exposure to wordpress over the last few weeks (for the pub website) has been pretty interesting.

I've found Joomla to be a bit more of a challenge, and had to call on Alex to help (thanks mate!) with a few questions for my DJ website.
From what I can see, Joomla is much more complicated and flexible (with steeper learning curve) and Wordpress does allow you to get on with adding content quicker.

OT, but what's the point in having the CSS & XHTML validation "tick" graphics on all pages when they aren't? I thought maybe just your homepage is, but it fails the XHTML check as well :confused:

Mines with just simple HTML and a couple of PHP Includes.

So quick and easy to get your head round web basics which can lead to great google results :D

The majority of the problems are where i have edited the template which is why it fails as I havent made the changes XHTML compliant.

However the original template is compliant.

Been putting it off, should get on with it.

Another vote for Joomla...

Fairly easy to set up... and there are plenty of quick templates out there you can simply click and install. Allow yourself a day or so to have a play.... install it into a subfolder like : www.yourwebsite.com/testarea or something like that.

There are LOTS of extensions for joomla which you can install and setup quite easily, however these are basic.... Obviously if you need to do tweaking to the design and add more advanced "extras" you'll probably need assistance as it can get a bit " codey " at times.

see now i got a free £500 google adwords voucher from my hosting company (very reasonable seen as its only £12 a year) i know its not the best site mine but i did build it myself and it is the first iv ever done!
now i would like to have it when people google me for it to come up ...
any advice greatly appreciated
