Sub help please gents

I am a stranger to the usage of subbs so here is my questions to the experts.

I run 2 x OHM RW3's here are the numbers-

POWER: 300 Watt rms
Impedance: 8ohm SPL 1W/1M 99dB Maximum: 124dB
Frequency: 65Hz - 20kHz Dispersion: 160 x 80

Powered by a 500w amp
---------------------------------------------------------
And would like to add a couple of subs such as these:-

Woofer 38cm (15")
Power max. 300W
Frequency response 20Hz - 500Hz
Impedance 8 ohms
SPL @ 1W/1m 89dB
SPL max. 94dB
SPL @ 1W/1m 89dB
SPL max. 94dB

My questions are these guys:-

1) Would these subs be compatible with my existing set up?
2) Would the amp I have be ok and man enough for the job?
3) If it is ok, would I notice much difference in my overall sound ?

Any help and advice would be fantastic.

1) The spec on those subs is abysmal. Better ones are available.
2) Probably. Just.
3) Not as much as if you got an active crossover, second amp, and better subs.

That gives versatility, built in backup, and control. Also a huge increase in sound quality.

My standard suggestion is showing no speaker stock at all. :(
Crossover, anything. This is as good as you need.

Better ones are available, but unless you want to get advanced about it, there's little to be gained.
Amp, well anything reputable giving about one and a half times the RMS rating of the cabs would be fine.

Subs, well I'm not too well versed on many brands, but these are well regarded by most folk.

I'm sure other folk will offer other recommendations, and as always listening firstbefore buying is de rigeur.

There is also the option of buying either one or two active subs, which cuts out the need for the crossover, and obviously the second amp. I'm not at all up on actives, but plenty of folk on here are.

Weird i just did a search for OHM subs on the net and they came up but im sure Mayhem can find some nearer.:)

The matching subs to the rw3 if I remember are the Ohm rb6 I use run a complete ohm set a few years back a good all round sound

My search came up with a product number, BR 15B. Entry level subwoofer. No obvious stockists though. More searching required.

Well sort of but they are 2x15 subs the ones i suggested are 1x15 which i thought would be enough for Mayhem,s application.

What tops do you run with them and how do you find them in larger venues .

I have run them with RCF ART 300s Studiomaster V15s and Wharfdale EPV-15X all of which have sounded very good so I think as long as you are using a 12" or 15" 300 to 350 watt top with a good DB rating you can't go wrong.

I was using these subs with my Warfedales on Saturday in a large venue for 200 plus people, the sound was very good and very adequate.
I think it's important to use a good amp to drive them.

The Ohm speakers aren't subs, they are basically the RW3 with the horn taken out. The guys at Ohm described them as bass extenders.

My reasoning is that the OMH subs are the same footprint as the tops therefore you can't get much height with a speaker pole if any and particularly considering Mr Mayhems clients he needs something that won't fall over easily if pushed.

I don't think the OMH subs have a built in cross over which would mean another amp and an active crossover which I don't think My Mayhem would be keen on.

My only other reasoning for recommending the NDJs is I've been very pleased with them and I've owned and sold quite a few pairs of subs.
I'm sure if someone wanted a pair they could get them for a better price than the link I've posted :)

They aren't subs. You won't get any real low frequencies - they will just extend your bass.

Out of interest Gary, what software, speakers and booth did you go for in the end? I seem to remember there being several threads about these things!

Yes will take it down to around 40 hz which not earth rumble should be ideal for your sort of gigs.
Last price i saw was £ 399 retail for a pair.

The bass cabs are the RWS. The RW5's are the 350 versions of the RW3's.

I use RW3's with now only 1 Mackie 18" active sub and it really, really improves things. Did have two, but one died. The RW3's handle Mid/Top quite nicely.

Correct as i said the RWS will do nicely i should know as we were stockist for many years,i just wish people would read the post as you have done these are perfect for Mayhems original request and wont break the bank.

Nobody,s saying your wrong although the S stands for subs i was as always trying to give good advice to Mayhem and they will increase his bass i wont bore you with technical details and as i understand it he mainly does children,s events so i thought they would be ideal, cool out man it,s Christmas.
