Tom, don't read too much into it unless you've already discussed an arrangement/contract with them (which by the sounds of it you haven't).

But on the positive side it's a great opportunity for you to make a really good impression so if they need a DJ in the future they will contact you first.

Be professional and confident and make sure whoever books the functions has your details on file. If I wanted to get myself into somewhere like this I'd probably follow up with a letter thanking them for booking me, what a pleasure it was working there and how you hope to continue to do business with them throughout 2011 etc etc.

Have you done a NYE before? What are your plans for the countdown? They'll probably be expecting you to really build it up towards 12.

Anything to do with DJ'ing NYE you're not sure about, now is the time to ask.

Never done NYE before.

Plans for countdown. Final countdown etc. then do 10-0 countdown big ben chimes then something like ABBA - Happy New Year.

No you can't because it's not been validated.

I'd take it off ASAP if I were you unless you renew your subscription.

...And NYE isn't easy Tom. There is a lot of microphone work needed etc to get the crowd excited. Do your homework before like Tony said. It will help you a lot.

Tom, it does sound like you're out of your depth here.

NYE is a very important night and Cafe Rouge will be expecting you to get it right - you really don't want to mess it up.

My advice would be to get a more experienced DJ to cover it and you go along as a helper for the experience.

Tom - maybe download this (http://www.dmcdownload.com/product-detail/dj+essentials%3a+christmas+4/megamixes+%26+dj+toolbox/download/357) - from track 28 leave on continuous (look down the right hand side of the page for a detailed description) - start it at 1.21secs before midnight for the Big Ben chimes to do the business on midnight and it's automatically go into Auld Lang Syne for you.

It's perfect if you're 'hands on' as in trying to compere or need to be in a different place to your decks at the same time - I've even left it on for the Scotland the Brave jiggy thing after Auld Land Syne as well - works a treat. (You've also got different versions of Auld Langs Syne on there as well)

Then (depending on what type of gig you're doing) you've also got the little mix at the end for a slowie - where it combines Abbas happy new year with Dinah Carols perfect year.

Agreed its late notice - but there may be a slim chance of finding one considering the catchment area - Surrey/Berkshire/Windsor & Maidenhead/Reading/Outer London etc.

But, as you say, if Tom asks the right questions, the forum is forthcoming and Tom takes notice of advice then all should be well.

Radio works good......:D
Also sync with venue and find which one you are playing to. Punters do have a habit in coming up and saying when are you playing "Big Ben"......everyones watch is different, not by much but enough to cause problems.

Should also workout which last two tracks you need to get to those chimes and stick to it......you then know when to kick off.

One more thing.......track after needs to be really up lifting. Status Quo - Rocking all over the world works a treat....... :sofa:

Have a look around at a few websites. you only need to have been DJing for five minutes and have a couple of Weddings under your belt to use the term "experienced" This is why DJs end up at events that they shouldn't go near and end up out of their depth. I had a venue owner telling me the other day that she had some spotty turn up to do a Wedding, she went to ask him to announce the cutting of the cake, and two minutes later he was at reception asking her what to say... and then "would you do it for me" It makes me laugh that the public are being hoodwinked by websites proclaiming ability which doesn't actually exist!

Mine was delicious but Harvey's steak was tough and Dad's chicken was poor.

I had mussels in a white wine sauce with shallots served with warm bread. On the side, I had a warm goats cheese salad with fries.

They were advertising their NYE bash there. I think they have a live band playing.
