ok guys i have trawled the forums with no answer
plugged my laptop into soundcard mixer etc etc and with the powercord in the laptop i get real horrible feedback noise but without the powerlead its fine

Sounds a classic case, from what I've read. A Ground Loop Isolator should solve the problem.

It will be a ground loop problem due to it not being there at all when the lappy isn't connected to the mains, I just think he's used the term 'feedback' wrongly. Isolater will sort it.....

i only take offence to the quote SAFE way of fixing it lol.but yes it would have saved me about an hour having the sticky

The only reason that Steve mentioned the "safe way", is because whe have had members in the past who have suggesed ways which arnt exactly electrically safe :)

my problem is that i use the usb soundcard built into the mixer, so i dont connect using phono leads, so a ground loop isolator wouldnt work.

Is there another way to solve this problem?

Possibly, but it probably won't be electrically safe.

Anyone suggesting such is likely to find themselves in the sin bin or banned, because we're fed up of deleting posts that suggest something that could potentially kill.

If you cannot connect a GLI, how can you be sure that is the issue.

In your case, i would be more likely to look at other issues, such as connecting cables and the like.

Don't forget the fact that doing something as simple as plugging your (eg) amp' into an electrical socket on one wall - and your mixer or laptop or whatever piece of equipment into a mains socket on another wall can cause a ground loop.
You can also introduce mains hum into your system by running mains cables in close proximity to audio leads.
I'm not trying to tell anyone how to suck eggs here , but it may be something as simple as any of these that's causing problems for those of you that have such issues.
