Ok i have a warrior 1300 and two sets of class-d 250wrms speakers

been running em at 4ohms for a while now never normally go above quarter volume on the amp
but the other night it did'nt seem to loud so had it almost halfway
started getting the clip lights flashing
now i use a cdmix 2 cdplayer and make sure i never go over 0.0db on there
so what could be causing this could it be the cold
any help please as i thought i had the amp and speakers pretty well matched:confused:

First thing before you go doing anything major.

Change your audio leads! From source to mixer, then from mixer to amp and then from amp to speakers.

Well basically with the numark cdmix you have the player and mixer in one unit
so will try different leads from the mixer to amp and different speakon leads
I used to connect from mixer to amp with Phono leads
but lately have been using master out xlr balanced leads not sure it would be that though.
would you think the amp and speakers are pretty well matched

If there was a noticeable reduction in volume from previous occasions, it is also possible that a speaker malfunction has caused this to happen.
I would suggest running the speakers in 8 ohm (pairs) and check they're ok also.

The DA 1300 produces 390 watts per side at 8 ohm and 650 watts at 4 ohms, so on paper is pretty well balanced to your speakers, but maybe you require a little more headroom ?.

I used to occasionally experience momentary clipping with a not dissimilar setup to yours with a DA1300, but since going up to the 2K5, I have had no instances at all.

It's this.

My thoughts are that the OP is making the mistake of thinking he can control the volume with the knobs on the front of the amp. This is a good way of cutting the available headroom, and getting clip lights to flash.

Try turning the amp virtually up to full, and controlling the volume from the mixer. Should help. We used to have a sticky somewhere about how to set the signal path up.

YOu are right excaliber that is what i do as the cdmix 2 has two faders and a master i allways try to keep these pretty close to 0.0db
What you are saying is pretty much turn the volume up all the way on the amp
and control the volume via the master and the db lights

I think i get what your saying pushing to much in, and restricting the output

 Clipping can still occur, if you push too big a signal in the front, without turning the amp up.

Bigger amp !;)

I think that Excalibur has probably nailed it for you, less input/more output (sensitivity).
I always ran a DA1300 at never less than 3/4 (3 o'clock) and controlled the input & volume via mixer faders.
In very simplistic terms, clipping occurs when the speakers require more than the amp is able to output, particularly during peaks. :)

You don't really do dignified silence at all, do you mate? :p :D :D :D :D

I in turn will have to grudgingly admit the wisdom of Kernow's strategy.:( :(

I have had various speaker/amp combinations over the years, and I have to say that more and more I'm coming to the conclusion that the best ratio of speakers to amp is 2:3, ie if your speakers are 200w RMS , then your ampshould deliver 300w RMS.
If you have two pairs of 250w RMS cabs, your amp should deliver at that impedance 2x250x3/2= 750w RMS. Don't let any red leds show, and you'll be fine. Kernow, in his usual power crazed manner, has got a bigger one, which in this scenario would also be fine, as long as it wasn't maxed out for long periods. With the two pairs of 350w cabs I often run, it would be ideal. ( In case you hadn't guessed, I'm jealous. I want one like that ).

Well, having been deeply touched by your heart-rending appeal, and in the true spirit of the season, particularly the helping of those less fortunate by the sharing of that with which one has been blessed ...................

Looks and strength, apparently military grade casing  :)

Using the same speakers with both:
AC Euro Acp112 (Same as Class D Jac 12, but with Eminence drivers ;) ) (300w RMS), when necessary, coupled with AC Euro 15" Bins (350w)

ok all good info one other thing does it matter which connection you use for input or output it does not say on the speakers i allways input the left and output the right

Excaliburs' knowledge of class D is unsurpassable and he is probably the best person to answer your question. :)

Personally I do the reverse i.e IN Right/OUT Left, so I hope it doesn't make a difference ?

I do though go from amp to tops and tops to subs, except when using active crossover and bi-amp setups.

Your faith is truly touching. Misguided, but touching. Tops are wired as link, so left or right matters not.
Subs however, left full range in, right high out. I have read on here that confusing the two can have serious consequences.
