View Full Version : NYE, what are you doing?

Charlie Brown

Yup, it's another NYE thread. :beer1:

Where are you and what are you doing?

I'm in Mansfield (Peter's eyes light up) playing to a 119 Masons. It's an annual event but this is the first time they're having a DJ. They usually have a cheesy 60's band who, apparently, are brilliant.

On the phone today, he said, 'Now Charlie, I've just had another look at your website and I noticed you are quite young. You're not going to blow our heads off with rap are you? Do you know any 60's songs? Shall I write some down? If it works well, we will have you again next year.' etc etc.

I'm pretty nervous TBH. Hope it goes well...the deckstand booth will look good even if the music isn't. :p :o

Come on then...what are you doing?

Easy job up at Eaves Hall in Clithero. Backgroud music during meal from 7:00 till 8:30. 45 minutes of swing singing during coffee etc. Send them all out to fun casino. Get them back at 10:30 for some disco. 11:00 til 11:55 party set of singing from Kev. 12:00 new year and then 1:00 am finish.

lovely easy job to 65 people. Yeeeeeeehaaaa. Show me the money.

oh yeah agent called me this morning. Please don't take all your rig as they are staying in the meal room. Two effects lights and your two Quartets only please. Oh and no bass, just keep it very simple.

Double yeehaaa - no trailer.

I decided to take a booking at my local at the start of 2010. I'm also dry-hiring
my 2nd rig to another pub for their DJ.
I'm also working NY Day, so pretty happy about that weekend!

I'm pretty sure I'm working a club, I had agreed to it at the start of November along with a few other nights at the beginning of December, which were subsequently cancelled by them due to the snow. I still consider myself to be on for NYE, but I will confirm it tomorrow.

No problem if not, there are parties I can go to :daft: :beer1:

Doubt it. Many leave gear behind. I just could never, ever do it. It really would mean a sleepless night worrying about it.

I know lots of guys who just leave gear anywhere, but it is just not for me.

I have left gear in a venue...but only if i know the owners/managers personally...and even then its usually locked away.

That said...my gig bag with music and laptop always comes home with me :)

I'm at a small village near Epping 8 to 12:30 for 80 peeps repeat booking from last year, they are an older crowd and easy to please.

the masonic lodge would probably pay for up if your gear was stolen while in their charge to protect their good name, I had a late cancellation this year and they abided by my terms & conditions with no problem.

I'm doing a wedding at one of my usual suspects with a winter wonderland theme to it

They've got me, a White 14 x 14 Starlight floor and "Ice Blue" uplighting. First time this venue has had a Starlight floor apart from the Wedding fayre so they're just as excited as the B&G. Should get some cracking pics!

Where are you going after the gig? Into Mansfield center itself or back to Nottingham?
