I could use more pars, scanning lasers, strobes etc but there isn't any need.

TBH, it could be fine, it could be dreadful.... a diagram may be good for you to plan and visualise your kit, but doesn't really help anyone but you (especially when it's not to scale).

If you spend time on the presentation, it will be fine. If you don't, it will be dreadful.

Chaps! I would wait until you get there. There will probably be tables set out for days and all your plans would have been a waste. Arrive with plenty of time to spare and work with what you are given (space wise that is!!!). 10 out of 10 for effort though.

Tom; I see you are 16 and its good that you are thinking ahead like this but from experience you will learn that it doesn't always work out as you plan. Don't want you to arrive there and be really pizzed off and find for some reason you have to scrap the lot and think on your feet.

Sometimes I arrive at venues I know really well and my roadie takes the top bar and S+H frame in while I am loading up the first trolley and he comes back saying something like..."they've got a big screen set-up and we'll never fit in", could be that there are more tables than usual or the client has requested a centre set-up or they've gone and booked a band without telling us or some new hotel staff have put the dance floor in the wrong place. The trick is to go in and make a quick plan in your mind's eye and get on with it with no fuss.

Anyway, that said hope it all goes to plan and you have a wild one.

My show for tonight is already set but I have to set another for the overspill room when I arrive, I have an old mate who used to DJ, he is an excellent DJ and he is doing the other room for me with my kit. That one is a bit of an unknown as its a room I don't usually do and it has some low cieling and little knooks and crannies and they are trying to fit too many folk in there IMO. I'm thinking to use a 4ft Ultimax with a star cloth front, pair of RCF322 or maybe 2 L1s and 4 B1s hidden under the stand and a T bar or 2 with some Impossableds and cluster lasers but might end up on a keyboard stand for all I know.

The trick is to go in and make a quick plan in your mind's eye and get on with it with no fuss.

Shouldn't "conduct a risk assessment" be in there somewhere? ;)


Otherwise I fully agree with the statement. Plans are great for 'blank canvas' installations such as stage shows but out there in the real world the back of a fag packet is far more appropriate.

I used to have that written in black marker on the back of my cricket bat. I also used to stick it on a bit of A4 right in my eyeline working on the radio.

I think its just that i am dyslexic and one of the things i was taught at school last year was to plan things before doing them.

tom I think what darren and steve are getting at is, if you come on here and say, hi I am 16 wanting to get into the mobile dj'ing , this is the equipment I have, can you help me please, you will get a fantastic response, but if you come on here and say I am 16 got my own company, I am a medium experienced dj blah blah blah,then because you have experience and should know better you will be shot down, there is nothing wrong with asking for help, just go about it in the right way and it will be given (sorry if I got this wrong steve/darren my son started at 15 and without the help he received from forums and local dj's he wouldn't be going now)

They are both shareholders with me as the director.

We have company PLI.

I have my Father as my accountant as that is what he does as his profession.

I haven't really taken much professional advice. Where/who would you suggest??

thats where my son got his money and from picking up golf balls at a driving range, no shame in that, if anything something to be proud of , he wanted something and worked his socks off to get it, he then reinvested a lot of the money he made on improving what he had:)

thank me by listening, you know as well as I do, Angela wouldn't say anything to upset you like that if she knew, but you put her in an impossible situation, she was asking you a question and probing for a good reason, and then you have the nerve to SHOUT at her when she is trying to help you(reminded me of kevin and perry), you can listen to your dad and teacher by all means but when they give you advise find out why they are saying it and remember they do not know everything, give Angela a good reason to help you and she will because she know's her stuff

As Darren said a few pages ago, the pretence that you are something you are not is where the trouble lies. You may have a limited company...but you are still a 16 year old boy with a disco as a hobby. You are wildly inexperienced; inexperienced to the point where you probably don't realise how inexperienced you are. Recent threads have demonstrated this better than I ever could.

The thing you're missing is that this place offers such collective experience, you'd be a fool to jeopardise your involvement in that by running your mouth.

So, back to self-awareness....the sooner you realise exactly what your business is (a few school boys with a hobby), how inexperienced you are, and how much help, support, advice and guidance you need, the sooner you'll be able to present yourself in a better light. Because at the moment you look like a spoilt kid that has accumulated several grands worth of equipment, doesn't know how to use it and has chucked his toys out of the pram.

Some of the older members on here take great pride not only in their business, but in the welfare of the industry as a whole; they (and I, but only since I've been here) see anything that would lower the public perception of mobile DJ's as a hazard to their business and ability to command a fee. It would be much better to have you inside the tent :Censored: ing out, than outside the tent :Censored: ing in.

Charlies posts towards Tom lately haven't gone un-noticed. I jokingly mentioned recently about having a creche area of the forum where all the young immature DJs can post, and I think that may be the newest addition of 2011. I'll stick all the immature brats in there and change their forum permissions so that's the only place they can post. Enough is enough.
