Why Am I Nervous/On Edge??

I've done thousands of Functions....and coped admirably well even when equipment has played up.:) :)

I'm working at my local WMC and it seems as though the whole Village is coming tonight....Folk who I have formed friendships with after working for them.:) :)


I've done Christmas Eve and Boxing Monday with the same gear and it sounded gorgeous.I have the Countdown and Auld Lang Syne sorted and the Glo-stsix and connectors lined up.:) :)


Anyone else want to own up to being a little apprehensive tonight???

I'm very nervous but excited. I like being nervous - It keeps you realistic and in the game. People who aren't nervous can be too laid back IMO.

Just dosh em out to all and sundry.....it helps the atmosphere.May take along some inflatable guitars....get them singing and clapping along....play some drinking games...you know all the stuff from Butlins in the 70's.Thats what they're used to from me now....in fact thats what they're coming for!!:)

They've got a surprise tho....as the Charts are now Laden with half decent stuff I'm going to slip some of that in!!I had some of them fast dancing to Bruno Mars on Christmas Eve.....:D :D :D

Its knowing that if my equipment is going to be ok(which it is 99% of the time) I'm going to storm them....

If it doesn't ....i'm going to look like I'm some 15 year-old on a project from the Duke of Edinburgh award sheme............

Re the gig, no. No pressure, a crowd I've seen a lot, local social club.

The only thing I am apprehensive about, is whether I can whup the young DJ across te raod again, for the third year running. I reckon he edged it Xmas Eve. :o :o :o Mind you, he did start much earlier in the day than me.

If you don't have the stress/nervous before most gigs feeling you won't do a very good job IMHO - it sharpens the mind and makes you want to try - if you just turn up and go through the same laborious routine, you don't have the passion.

That's right, just another night with the ding dongs. Different for me as I am in a pub and haven't done a pub night for about 4 years.
I am more at ease than usual as the gig has been contracted by another dj and he was having trouble to find someone to do it. After about 2 hrs he was told I had been cancelled so offered it to me after taking his cut.
I must admit I will point out to them that if they had accepted my earlier quote (than his later one) I could have done it for sure.
I will have a very basic rig and apart from making sure the Big Ben chimes and Auld Lang Syne are ok I am not bothered at all about it.

I'd have to disagree with that. I put the same into events now just as I did in the days I used to get nervous, in fact, that's not quite correct. I put more into them now.

My quote was turned down but for that I would have used a rig with moving heads and maybe multicolour laser plus some mood lights but as I am now getting less than 3/4 of my quote I am not giving them all that I originally quoted for. The pub have gone for a cheaper disco so they get a bit less gear but I will still put a good night on, after 42 years I always do. Just I am not humping and setting up so much gear for a lower fee.

No pressure from my crowd at all. A real party crowd only about 5 or so under 35 & no (from the looks of it anyway)part time drinkers who feel they have to drink the equivalent of their bodyweight to enjoy themselves.

I can't remember being told how good it was by so many for quite a while, which is odd because I thought I was below par & felt decidedly under the weather, which Angela put down to nerves. I don't get nervous when DJing. Never have. Although weirdly it did feel like butterflies & I had no appetite. What a time in my career to develop nervousness if it is.

Did a bit of mic work, announcing song requests, midnight etc, my main fear at the moment is thinking i'm going to make a fool of myself on the mic.

Need to overcome this......

There's no real advice we can give you on this. To us old school wobblegobs it's second nature. Time and experience will help. Be calm, don't rush, and be clear.

I always get a bit nervy before a gig , after a sound check I feel much better , other nervy moments are as you press play for a first dance.
And last night , making sure my NYE mix started at 11:54:31 , I had to cut "time warp" a few second short.
