New years eve crowds

Where I played last night , no one arrived until 9 ish , and according to the club , was about 20% down on last year.
Just came back from my local club ( to see the carnage :D ) , they said the same.
How did you find your gig , if last night was a repeat booking for you , how did it compare?

I did a pub in Wimborne that I've done for the past four years and your experience mirrored mine.

People not arriving until about ten o'clock and not so many of them. Tradition here is that most people congregate in the town square for midnight, so there is a mass exodus from the pubs about 11.45. Now, normally they would come back in but we didn't see that many return. The night was good, a fun atmosphere and people dancing but definitely numbers down compared to last year.

My crowd were great, & could obviously hold their liquor (merry / tipsy, but not out & out mullered).

However on my way home.........

I don't think I've ever seen so many unsteady people in Barnet ever (+ a few minor casualties)

I wasn't working last night, but popped in to the hotel I have done for the last gazillion years for a drink and a bit of a nosey. If I'm honest, I suspected they'd replaced me with a Sid.

16 people, eating in the restaurant, one table of which were the GM's family. Only me and my mate in the bar....

I'm hearing from a number of reliable sources, and obersevations I made myself, that numbers were well below what was expected. lets hope it's not a sign of what we have in store for the coming 12 months.

Same as last year as i do a local golf club tickets only, food and free bar £30 per head always sold out as soon as they go on sale.

Village pub with 10 people in by 8pm, two were kids under 5yrs. By 11pm there were nearer 30 and half of them were over 50. Several late teens early 20's came in before midnight but quite a few others had gone home, just been out for a drink and not to celebrate NYE.
A group of 9 formed the circle and sang Auld Lang Syne whilst most just kept drinking and wished each other Happy New Year.
Tried everything but couldn't get the same atmosphere as usual for NYE.
Also got the 'Play this next, you msut play latest tracks now' and 'Gotta play the 70's now' then the landlord comes up and says 'Play some country, please'
Glad to get home TBH.

Local(ish) restaurant that's well off the beaten track, it's on a main road, but not exactly in either a village or hamlet:Laugh:

I had 26 plus four staff:daft: They can accomodate over 100:eek:

Still a reasonable night though, mostly aged late 20's to late 50's I'd say.
Not exactly a rocking night, but they had a good time none the less. The midnight thing worked well:D

renaissance rooms in Vauxhall, 9pm - 8am. Very busy night, my room had approx. 800 in there all night, and probably a total of 1600 over the whole club.

so, very happy, but somewhat tired when i got home at 10am this morning.

I am hearing that Edinburgh was quiet on the whole. My brother arrived at Studio 54 at 10.30 with two friends, and they were literally the first people to sign in!! :eek:

I have to say I'm feeling the pinch too, and like most, alcohol is one of the first luxuries I'd cut out :(


Lets hope it's not a sign of what we have in store for the coming 12 months.All signs point to things becoming a lot worse in 2011 :(

numbers down on previous year but at 11pm the pub filled up.

did notice tho tat trying to get people on dancefloor was nigh on imposibble but then around 11.30 they all seamed to wake up and the dancefloor was pretty much full till i stopped around 2.30am

happy tho as booked again for next years xmas & new years eves parties there :)

I was at my local family pub.They sold out ages ago at £20 per person.Done there 8 years in a row and booked me for next year but added a extra £50.
The night started at 7.45,food at 9.15 but they did not finish food till 11.I finished music at 1,so over all a easy night and only 1 mile from my house.They have also said i can do every sat in december there as well,so overall its been great.

I worked in a club about 15 miles from home. There was about 60 people there, including my eight of my family.

It was slow to start with people still arriving at 9:00pm - 9:30pm, but picked up about 10:00am and lasted til 1:00am, when I finished.

...They have already booked me for NYE 2011!! :eek: :) - The boss said over my mic to the crowd "Who wants Scott to DJ next NYE?", to which everyone said "Wooooo" and cheered lol :D :D :D

yes, well it did get a little messy towards the end, but all in all a very good natured crowd.

Full house of 65 for us. Sit down meal with Swing set, then send them off for a fun Casino for 1 and half hours. Vocal set from 11:00 to midnight. 1 hour disco afterwards. Home.

They were fully booked up at £100 a ticket.

Different job from last year, but I know the venue we have done for the last two years had been expecting us back. However, a couple of multi-op agents having fall outs meant they didn't get us.

May be passing there at some point.

The Venue staff said there are usually more people, but last year they booked a Singer, who was pants, and so they believe they lost custom through it.

Had a crowd of 500 - They enjoyed the night by all accounts - for me it was indifferent, I didn't really enjoy it that much if I'm being honest.

According to the organiser they sold around 200 tickets less than last year.

I still had around 1300 people to work with though.

I find it more enjoyable with smaller crowds, I did a NY for 3,000 some years ago and it was difficult to get any rapport going...good money and a buzz but that's about all.

My venue this year made it a family night and I had about 300 with about 55 kids, it was a proper meal for the adults and a buffet with stuff like burgers and little fried fish for the kids so they ate a lot quicker so I did some games with them while the grown ups were stil eating, took the big connect 4 in too which went down well. I thought it might get a bit quiet before the 2am finish time but surprisingly the room was still buzzing with about 250 folk right up till the end, kids were still going strong too.
