Does this or has this worked for others?

I know changing names means building up your rep again but does it work or do you go back to what was the original name or change again?

What about web pages......redirect from one to other......mind boggles.

on the website side you can redirect the old site to the new site and put up a sign that says

"new name same staff" etc etc

New name, same old company, new public perception. And KFC aren't the only ones who've done this, either!

Not for me. It was just a name change. Same company, same food.

Same as British Telecom changing to BT. The service didn't get any better or worse 'cos of a name change.

I am Abracadabra Disco and when I took a booking for a wedding 7 years ago the bride said 'Please do some magic and kids entertainment for the first 20 mins or so'. I said I don't do magic, where did you get the idea?'
'You are Abracadabra aren't you' she said. Since then I have also been www.abracadabramagic.co.uk and this is now as popular if not more so than the disco site.
So I will not change the name.
IMO changing a name can loose some custom but may create new custom.

Tony, that's tricky. Logic suggests that a new name severs all ties with the old regime, and may be worth it for that alone. Make a big play out of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. ( Phoenix. Now there's a name that's been used a time or two. I was nearly a Phoenix once. )

Against that, there's brand loyalty. " We've been using Sixty Quid Sid's Stupendous Discos for fifty years man and boy, and we're not about to change ". I'm not sure brand loyalty carries the weight it once did.

But that's my point exactly. Shortly before Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC, they were having the worst period of their history with a tremendous down-turn in sales revenue. They never changed the menu (at that time) or re-decorated their restaurants but simply changed their name. And the fact that they are trading today, and making healthy profits (if not healthy food), just goes to show that the mentality of a name change can work wonders on customer's perception.
