I have just been given a pair of PEAVEY EUROSYS 500 XT SPEAKERS (4OHM) as a backup to my current pair.

well, according to their specs, they have a power rating of 500w. thats not stated as RMS / AES so i'm going to presume from experience that a program rating.

depending on how disciplined you are with your levels, you will need an amp able to deliver between 250 and 500w per channel RMS into a 4 ohm load

If you like running your kit close to the wire, stick with amps in the smaller part of that range. If you are disciplined and always keep your levels "in the green", then having a larger amp will allow you to exploit the maximum amount of dynamic range out of the speakers without damage, whilst allowing your amp to run with less stress, improving reliability and sound quality.

As to the amp, well something delivering around 400w RMS at 4ohms is the sort of size best suited.

There are a wide range available, at all sorts of prices. Do not buy a Legendary Prosound from Maplins, nor any of the bargain basement brands often shown on Ebay.

I would agree that assuming they are 250RMS then an amp giving about 350 - 400 RMS per channel into 4 ohms would suit...don't just go for an amp that someone might sell to you as an 800w amp as that might not be giving 400 x 2 into 4 ohms. Without wishing to cause confusion amplifiers are normally sold by quoting their highest spec. They produce different power levels into different loads...you need to check the figures closely.

I believe they are 250w RMS, Andy, cos this was asked elsewhere.
I also wish that manufacturers would play the game a bit more. The Legendary Prosound 1000 springs to mind immediately. :D :D :D :D It may have been legendary, but it never produced 1000watts of usable power. ;) ;)

Advertising claims, eh? I'd suggest the lad asks here first, before parting with his hard earned.

i used to use these all the time - my last 2 are coming up for sale in teh next few days.

I originally ran them with a peavey pv1500 which they ran great on.

i sold them all had 8 and kept 2 for backup/small rig and have been useing a slimline Kam KXS700 also coming up for sale soon.

if i am honest they sounded better and punchier with the PV1500's.
