I'd be interested to hear members' transport plans.

As mobile discos, surely one of the most important aspects of your service is "getting there" no matter what the weather, roads and mechanical condition of your vehicle(s) throw at you.

For those with roadside assistance policies, please be specific as to which exact policy you hold as there does appear to be a fair amount of confusion around entitlement.

I'd also be interested to hear about any actual or near disasters caused by difficulties in getting to site.

Just a bit of market research along with hopefully some healthy debate and a few pointers for those who haven't really put too much thinking into their plan.

I have a two year old Ford Transit as my main vehicle with Green Flag cover.

The wife has a Land Rover Discovery fitted with proper all terrain tyres that is also insured for me to use for my business use.

I've only had to use it once and that was a few weeks ago, in the snow. I got there no problem.

I believe i could get to most events, if i can't, there probably won't be any guests either!

I use an estate car for disco. Citroen C5 to be precise. Always kept fully serviced and as my garage gets so much trade from me (:D ) and knows how much I rely on the car he squeezes me in for any repairs urgently needed.

I have breakdown cover through the RAC. There has been confusion about if breakdown cover actually covers you, however I have checked and I am covered. The policy covers me, not the vehicle and covers business use inc disco. It is a bit of a strange policy however as we got it through the police federation when my dad was in the force and they have carried on the policy and substantial discounts for myself.

Backup I have my wifes car - Mercedes C-class - which can fit a disco in comfortably and my wife also has a Rover 45 for business which can fit a disco in at a push.

Breakdown on the way to a gig would entail me ringing the breakdown service but if quicker my wife would come and swap cars. I also leave details of where I am at and the route taken at home should any kit / vehicle / assistance be needed.

As far as 'getting there no matter what' I DON'T agree with the statement. If the roads are really bad with snow and advice is not to drive on them, I won't risk it. If the roads are that bad guests won't get there in any case. I have never had to cancel a gig, clients have always rang first but would do if needed - my life is worth more than a few hundred pounds for a gig.

One gig I had where the bride was unsure what to do I managed to 'advice' her to postpone the reception. She held a reception at a later date and booked my Photo Slideshow to show guests the actual day. I got a lovely letter off her thanking me for advising not going ahead. She said she would just have worried about guests travelling and her words were it would be 'stupid' to go ahead.

I have a 2001 Ford Transit Hi Cube which is divided in 2 with 2 rigs,I have propper van insurance (as a mob dj) and breakdown cover added to same policiy with RAC.I have as backup a Skoda(skud Missile) Felicia with towbar and a enclosed trailer at my dads house.Also in place i have a local uncle and my dad and a friend (whos a mechanic) as drivers as my son dosent drive.

I have a 2003 Citroen Berlingo as my 'Disco Wagon' :D

I have breakdown cover via my bank (Santander) with Green Flag which includes both Roadside Assistance and cover at home. The car is covered for breakdowns, even at home, and if my can't can’t be repaired, they will arrange transportation for me and the car to get it to a repairer or wherever I choose.

A few weeks ago, I had a few problems with the Berlingo, one of which was my Gear cable which had snapped on the way to a gig. I phoned home and 5 mins later the Vauxhall Vectra arrived. - Problem solved :)

I always try and keep my car in good running order - It's quite handy having a Step-brother who own's his own garage :D

I have a volvo v70 estate 2.5turbo :) it not only gets me there but it looks damn good, i easily get all my gear in even had extra bits in and still loads more room .... used to tow a trailer but this is sooo much easier, and being a bit of a beast I can make an emergency booking in record time ;)

main vehicle is a 4x4 lwb pajero back up is a 4x4 frontera and if need be i would take the seats out of the wifes corsa:D

Our main vehicle is the Alhambra but we also have a Ford Escort as backup. We also have access to several other suitable vehicles if needed but, to be honest, we've never needed this.

Both vehicles are fully comp insured and both drivers are covered with the AA in the event of breakdown although I don't have policy specifics.

We have a LWB High top van which we keep very well maintained. As soon as we suspect something is wrong it is in for a check up... However, if it comes un-usable two cars available to transport what gear needs to get to the venue.

Regularly serviced, very well looked after, And I managed to fit a reasonable rig in it (although not my truss i'm sorry to say!)

The looks I get from some people, usually followed by the remark "That'll never all fit in there" - They sharp eat their words!

My breakdown cover is also with my bank (Halifax) which I believe gets me towed home if they can't fix the car at the roadside.

In this event, I've got plenty of friends with car's larger than mine (doesnt take much really!) who'd no doubt help me out!

I mainly use an Escort van, or if the weather is bad a Nissan X-trail. I also have a Nissan Navara and access to a couple of box trailers, and if ever there is a really big function there is always the 7.5 tonne truck.
I have AA relay & roadside assistance.

If you ever have an accident you will die when all the kit crushes you. Not a good idea.

Unlikely due to the way she gets loaded up, the only thing behind me is two 15" Peaveys (in the space where the back seats should be!)

Lights, CD/Mixer case, stands and everything else fits in the boot - very snug!
