Light price question.

Mind if i pick a few of your brains.

I purchased 3 lights from a bankrupt nightclub 2 days ago. The lights are LFX Kaleidoscope 250 (spirit 250). After hours of searching online I have come to the conclusion that I cannot find the original prices of them. :confused: It would be nice to know the purchase price of them to see how much i managed to save on the purchase.

I paid £106 for 3 units. With the build quality and the size of them I would say they are quite a way bit more costly to purchase when they were new.

The only drawback is the bulbs for them cost almost the same as the 3 units cost they use MSD250/2 bulbs which I understand to be high output discharge bulbs if I am correct.

Any info would be appreciated.

I didn't know that, I always knew them as EVL units...in fact I think the Spirit was actually designed by EVL. think they were about £350 each originally, I had Ralph's demo Spirit and if I recall correctly I gave him £250 for it. You can get some cheaper alternative lamps too, something like £40-£50 each.

Be careful with cheap lamps though as the cheap ones have a habit of exploding when they die...which leaves you with the proble/cost of cleaning glass out of the innerworkings ;)

Thank you that hit the nail right on the head. The light is exactly the same unit as you stated. So it looks like I saved myself a few quid then by getting the 3 units for £110.

Much appreciated for the informatin. Yes the bulbs do explode if they are cheap, I had to remove a blown bulb out of one of the units then strip it down then clean it.

After enquiring at a supplier I use they have said the bulbs vary from £27 up to £118. I was also advised that an msd 200/2 bulb would also work in the unit but would not be as bright (common sense states that I should use bulbs as stated on the unit to avoid any damage).

whilst a msd-200 will run in that unit, the ballast is designed to deliver the current required by the 250w lamp, hence the 200w will be over-run, and fail fairly quickly.

Philips / osram lamps can be had for £55 - 70 and are what you need. Cheaper lamps will fail badly, and usually fail quickly, making them a false economy. A philips lamp will give you 2000 hours, so it should be the last lamp you need to buy for them.

Slightly off subject, but how did you know about this club going bankrupt?
I'm looking into buying bankrupt lighting and sound gear from clubs and I can't for the life of me find any info.
