How long for google to recognise changes

As the title says...how long does it take for google to recognise SEO changes to your website?

when my site was "re-done" it was top of google within 2 weeks :)

I've found it's usually within a few days for me...

The best course of action is to redo the sitemap if you've made changes to the structure of your site.
Then log in to your webmasters account with google... and resubmit the sitemap.

If you've made title and tag changes ( page descriptions and titles ) then again it's a case of submitting a sitemap... and then just waiting I'm afraid :)

I must just be lucky then as it's almost instant when I make a change.

For example when I add a venue to my "List" it's about 12 hours for it to start showing on a search.

It just depends on the frequency that Google visits your site, and if you make your changes just before (best case) or just after (worst case) they come around. So it can be almost instant, but I advise clients it can take up to 2 months.

Google will not waste resources (yours and theirs) by frequently visiting a site which rarely changes. So if your site has been static for the past 2 years and you make a change, don't expect it to be reflected instantly. Google will already have determined your site rarely changes and will have reduced the visit frequency for it.

On the other hand, if your site changes frequently, Google will be aware of this, will visit more frequently, and any changes will be reflected in searches quicker.

If you have Google Webamster Tools you should be able to see roughly how Google crawls your site. You can also add a sitemap.

Also searching for site:www.dynamic-entertainment.co.uk (http://www.google.co.uk/#q=site:www.dynamic-entertainment.co.uk) will show what Google has for your site, and if you click on the small "Cached" link on the first result that should show roughly when Google last visited at the top of the page (showing 16th December just now).

I was wondering though - if I make regular but small changes, does Google recognise this and crawl more often or do the changes have to be fairly significant???

Hard to say, really. A lot of web pages will change a little but without any real content change (for example, where there are random elements to a page, like banner ads or random quotes) so I'd assume Google will look for a more significant percentage change to justify more regular crawling.

Google Webmaster Tools will show you how regularly you are crawled so keep an eye on that and you'll find out :)

Depends if the crawlers are on overtime;)

Generally seems to be every week or two (maximum)

Obviously there is a difference between changing a few details on your site which then gets transposed on to your google lineage on a search--- as opposed to people talking on this thread about their rankings which are a completelly different subject.

Dont like to contradict this BUT one or maybe two days ago I changed ONE word in the name of the htm file for index on one of my web sites--

Just checked and my friend Google Crawler has already changed it

I didn't say they wouldn't index small changes, I was refering to the crawl rate and how they decide how often to crawl your site, based on the frequency of past changes. You obviously made the change just before they came around ;)

Yup Mr Crawler crawled along on the 13th March apparently.

Lucky as usual, Cortex, Peavey, Ford etc
