Passive full range

I'm looking for a pair of new passive full range speakers out of next months wages.

I'm basically just looking for 400W RMS/each minimum.

I've checked out a few sites but don't want to buy any old rubbish without opinions from the experts.

Well yes but if one goes still have the other side and chances are knowone would notice. If your amp goes then no sound at all!

Err Darren is trying to point out tactfully that some of the Intimidation range is not of the highest quality. That model doesn't look like it's designed for the mobile DJ. The shape of the cab suggests it's designed to be used as a monitor among other things.

I don't think that's your best bet, but don't have a better suggestion as yet, sorry.

Other wise I was allways happy with Peavey UL's i just wanted smaller cabs.

+1 - I've had mine for 6 Years now, and other than a few scratches on the handles they still look like new! - Mine (UL-15s) are rated at 500w RMS - yet I've done a row of large gigs before on a Crown Macro-Tech 2400 which pumped out 800w Per cab and they just lapped it up.

They naturally accent mids (probably as they're primarily used for bands I assume) however there's a contour EQ switch on the back which makes them less harsh.

As mentioned, the only downside is their size/weight. I'm looking at down-sizing to 12" active cabs this year, Probably the JBL PRX612M or QSC K12 which could be for your consideration if you don't mind paying the premium!

Steer clear of cheap speakers! - I learned my lesson first time round, Wattage and sensitivity isn't everything!

Hi Nathan i noted you have had quite a few posts on your advice for help on buying some new speakers ,i can not tell you what to buy but can give you some advice.

1 decide if you want passive or powered.
2 if you decide on passive will your present amplifier be suitable.
3 always go and listen and try them out with your current play out system.
4 even if you spend a lot of money on your new speakers they will only be as good as your sound chain mixer/amp.
5 always enquire what your speakers are loaded with(drivers) because thats what your paying for.
6 if you decide to go for powered speakers remember all your eggs are in one basket and you may not have the resources to have back up ,much more easy to borrow a spare amp to get you by.
7 remember most speakers are designed for live work,except top end like Funktion 1 or Opus so don,t buy on looks just listen and then listen again and you will be ok.

No chance - they just look like them. the ones pointed out are 101 db where as the RCF's are 127 db a massive difference.

Just pay a bit more and get better quality. you can skimp on lights but not sound. :)

Why a minimum of 400w?

Because my smaller speakers are 200W/RMS.

And my big speakers are 400W/RMS. (Their too big).

But with newer designs etc, 400w/RMS are very close to the size of my smaller speakers, which is good.

And most of my gigs would be fine with 800w/RMS worth of sound.

I've just seen the Kam Vortex 15. Issue is some sites say 400W and others say 350W???

Yes I think so. :) They RCF's are max SPL 127db

They do have neo drivers too which should help the sound and make them allot lighter too.

Nice to have a comparison.

I would still get a set of smaller ones and a cheaper sub (ie Db)
