Wanted: More bass!

We have a venue we supply to which has a 350-400 capacity and does between 15-20 bookings a year with this amount of people.

Now we have been doing it with either an RCF rig - 2 325as and 2 705as and it has just about coped. We have a couple of cheapy active cabs using the LDWats system for the back of the room too, so distribution s fairly good, but we could do with more bass for the dance floor area.

I don't want to spend too much on this - maybe £350 per cab and they must be active/powered/whatever you like to call them for ease of use and adding to the current system.

I don't want passive and I have already priced up hiring, so am now looking for suggestions for this route. Thanks.

Watching closely. I'm in the market for better sound this year ... not at those sort of capacities though.

Are you using your bass cabs sited together or under the tops ... because you can take advantage of the +3db effect if you push them together and put the tops on speaker stands?

I found the appearance pleasing, and the price didn't upset me too much either!:eek: :eek: On paper the specs aren't at all bad, but as we all know, our ears should be the final arbiter.

At that price, yeah, but there is 6 days to go. Not sure if a 12" will go as low as a 15 or 18 either. I wouldn't normally be bothered but this is a large venue that needs some serious reinforcement.

Marmite? I know there are folk on here who rave about DB subs. I also know a couple of folk who are very unimpressed. It can be very subjective, this sound lark, can't it? :confused: :daft:

Ah. Point of order. I never said too good to be true, Thomann have a good reputation for no nonsense gear at keen prices. As a general rule, most folk ( probably not Shaun ) would be confident when ordering just about anything from Thomann.

I've since used Thomann again and I'm about to make another large(ish) purchase from them. However.....there are pitfalls with currency conversion when buying in the EU should you have to return items for a refund. All credit where credits due, Thomann came through in the end for me (albeit after many many calls), and as a result I still buy from them. :)

They did resolve it though. At the end of the day I'm Scottish and Thomann (in most cases) are still the cheaper option for a lot of things, which is why I went back. :o

The truss is just standard 'Global Truss' (F34), the only difference is I'll be using it vertically. The base plates are proving to be a nightmare to source, the 80x80cm ones that thomann does may not be quite heavy and wide enough for mounting my movers on at 2 metres height (I'll know more soon as a friend is working out load bearing calculations and stability factors for me). Managed to source some heavier and wider base plates in the US but so far none of them are willing to ship to the UK. Terralec do ones that seem ideal, but at £380 per base plate it's far more outlay than I'd like to spend on those parts. :eek:

Trunkwell, I haven't worked in for years, but have quite a big marquee, so can't really suggest anything for that.

Wokefield Park depends on the room, but most are fairly small.

Which room is it at Wokefield Park Gary? The biggest room I have worked in was right at the end (can't remember what it is called), but I took a single sub in there. All the others were just a pair of Mackies or RCFs.

I think I've been there once and it was a pretty large room, but the dance floor was shoved to one end, so would ideally need some fill-in around the seating rather than loads of power at the dance floor end.

They look exactly the same as my Studiomaster VSX15 subs and yes they are good , Carlsbro Gamma league I would say, much better than some I've had.

We've had the base plate discussion before. Since we're dealing with the more staid and sensible memmers of the forum, I'll refrain from suggesting Rawlbolting them to the floor, to improve stability. :D

Shaun, once you get the figures, can you not simply wander down to a steel stockholders, get a couple of lumps chopped off, and Hammerite, or Powder Coat the blighters for a lot less than £380 per each? :confused:
