over the last 3 weeks i have lost 9 bookings that ive had on a rolling rebook for 5 years- the reason why because I wont drop my price !

they have all gone gone for the £60.00 sids or £100.00 for 2 day bookings :(

as most of my work is booked a year in front loosing jobs like this really hurts as I am unlikely to get new bookings.

Its not as if im not getting plenty of enquires but not getting any of them as they have gone to teh 60.00 sids- they dont care about being legal around here or reputations its all about price.

I tell ya im thinking of becoming one !

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's very galling sending out quote after quote and not hearing anything. I don't know what the answer is really, I for one don't want to drop my prices!

Right, five minutes of serious, before the tablets wear off: Over the last twelve plus months, I too have taken a hammering from Sid,myself. :( I've never before had folk ask how much, and then go silent on me. :eek: Recently , I posted how I thought it would get worse before it got better. Guess what? The next two months have just bucked the trend, and returned to somewhere near what used to be regarded as normal. Work coming in from the usual sources, which for two years have been dead, and I've just converted at least two enquiries from directory enquiries, which for fifteen months I've not converted one!

I'm baffled, but not too unhappy, at the moment.

were I live i am already the dearest disco. but as normally I dont do much work in town never been that fussed.

in town there are 7 who go out for £60.00 - these have all the pubs n clubs sown up.

theres 2 that go out for £100.00

unlike city mobiles there is no upper market here at all even weddings you struggle to get more than £150.00 and for that they expect afternoon & evening

I regually keep in contact with the other djs around me - sometimes even passing work around if out side our normal generes.

must admit only 2 gigs I managed to salvage from Dec were 2 x 16 year old birthday parties were it was all chart stuff with a bit o modern cheese - these were gigs i deffo didnt enjoy (and certainly would have passed on,) at all as I am not into chart stuff at all. but done it and just kept telling myself its for the money and to help keep teh disco going.

funny thing is they were over the moon and have picked up 1 confirmed and 2 poss later in the year.

I have to pick you up on this, as with every city there are nice venues with well paid gigs in them. I know that we do a couple in Lincoln every year and they certainly pay double £150 just for a 7-12 disco.

You just need to find them that's all.

As regards pricing in Hull, a few of the lads are quoting £250.00 to try and kick start decent money.
With the likes of a couple of operators charging stupid amounts (cheap) just to get the gig it's nice to know that some of them are trying to get the money up a bit.
I don't know whether they are getting it but it's worth a try.
It's like what has been mentioned before, every town or city in the UK are going to get the "bottom feeder" Disco's, but if you can sell your talents by the likes of safety and insurance, 90 per cent will come round to your way of thinking.
If I get a customer who's after a cheap deal, I always say to them "give us a call when they don't turn up or cancel on you".

As regards me and my lads, we are more than happy to help you guys out anywhere in the country (because we are nice like that) if it means more money for us in the short term.

I've sent off several quotes in the last couple of weeks and nothing back whatsoever :(
It's also harder here as I live on the coast and don't have say a 50 mile radius - I can only go one way, inland and even looking around listing sites there's sod all, and even those few gigs there are in the vicinity, the customers are looking for a DJ/Disco for stupid money.

Well I'm baffled. :confused: What's changed? Fifteen months with no conversions whatsoever from online enquiries, I made no change in my responses, kept the same price, and guess what. There lies the big problem, £150 discos which DO provide the same level of service as more expensive ones, this is where good marketing skills are essential.
