OK I cannot access one site.

Of all the sites its Bogfrog http://www.bogfrog.co.uk/

It is visible on everyone else's machines.
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/www.bogfrog.co.uk

I cannot see it on my girlfriends MAC running Safari as i cannot mine (same machines).
Tried it in Firefox too.

This is an internet provider issue and i have no idea what?

I am getting the supply from utilities warehouse

Fine here on all of my apple products. I should imagine it's your internet supplier. You could try changing your DNS settings..

Could be anything - are both machines that don't get it on the same connection? Behind the same router? Running the same firewall / AV software?

I've had occasion in the past where a particular site was blocked for me only, and it usually turned out to be some GDI+ JPEG vulnerability problem with one or more images on the site, and my "paranoia settings to maximum" firewall blocked the IP. That's an old problem and patched a while ago, though, but your problem might be something similar...

Everything the same.

The site was OK yesterday and I have not touched it since?

Toby... two things:

1) have you worked out what that phantom connection was on your router? It may have something to do with that.

2) Via your routers back end software, check to see if any parental features have been turned on... or see if any sites have been blacklisted.

Try either machine on a different connection, or a different machine on your connection (i.e. swap out stuff to eliminate possibilites).

Try disabling firewall / AV software and see what happens...

Just hacked in to my neighbours and its fine.

So nothing to do with the laptop but more to do with ISP?

Why is this?

Shall I call them. I really cant be bothered to be honest. :(
Why should I

It's either your router, your wireless (if it is wireless) or your ISP.

Easiest to eliminate next is wireless. If you're using wireless, try a network cable into the router.

In this situation, I normally check via a 3rd party proxy. Quick and easy is "hidemyass".
http://hidemyass.com/

This will display a website, with the actual request being sent from a their server, if it works then the actual server is probably ok.
However, some servers will have BFD (brute force detection) scripts running - so if you've recently tried to log in via FTP, or forgotten email password etc, you may find your IP Address is black-listed.

The 3rd party proxy route should still work in this case.

This would normally also show for email/ftp or other services on the same physical web server.

So - 3rd party proxy
Check if email is ok
Check any other sites
Contact ISP and WebHost.

Try a tracert (tracert www.bogfrog.com) command on it from a command prompt, and see where the connection breaks down.

By the way, there is a grammatical error in flyers.gif at the top of the page - 'your in safe hands' :o

Not sure about running my browsing information through a third party so they can sell the data on possibly :)

do not think so. I have a mac that simply goes on the internet and thats it
Definitely not me.

Is that another hosting company.

the one I have is OK apart from this. i am on the phone to them now.
Apparently they have a new IP range that blocks certain sites. He has said it has happened a bit with facebook pages and the likes?

they will get back to me. he said its a dynamic IP and if you reset the router at some point it should reset to another IP that does not start with a 2

No they are not a hosting company.

What they are is a company who make the internet safer through integrated Web content filtering, anti-phishing and DNS.

How will it help you?

Obviously from the problems you are reporting it sounds like your ISP's DNS system is knackered, therefore you can configure your router to use an alternative provided by Open DNS. There are many benefits, by routing your IP traffic through Open DNS's systems you are getting a safer internet and their DNS isn't knackered. All you need to do is sign up, they will give you some information you need to feed into your router and that should hopefully resolve your problem.

Further to this, websites will open faster thanks to super-fast cacheing and you won't ever have to worry about unreachable websites unless they are actually offline.

As an added benefit you can also block domains so if you have kids in the house you can stop them (and yourself) going on the sexy sites and there's also protection against phishing (the business of hoodwinking you into entering personal information on copy-sites), botnet protection (hackers) and more.

Further to this, It really is a no-brainer, i've used Open DNS for more than 8 years and never have any website problems unless like I say the website you're trying to view is actually offline.

Their statement "it should reset to another IP that does not start with a 2" sounds like a load of rubbish and a way of getting rid of you if i'm being honest.

Try Open DNS is my quick and easy answer.

Another happy long-time user here.

Thanks for the help everybody - nice to know it's out there :D

So I keep the existing supply (broadcall) at £18 a month and use that and it will speed it up by effectively bypassing the current route?

If this is the case can anyone recommend a super good supplier for business use? I never use my home phone unless I need to call an 0800 number.

PS its working now. They were pretty helpful and I could understand them (India).
They said they would call back and were in no rush to get rid of me. :) good service.

OK I have added this DNS thing and my bogfrog page is still not opening!

It was not before - I only tried New forest and yourdj.

I have added my speedtouch IP.

The speedtouch is not wireless and runs through a netgear router (just a wireless server).

I have tried a direct connection into this router and this is where the problem lies.

It has made no difference at all. :(

The settings for IP address is for the speedtouch.

Try a tracert (tracert www.bogfrog.com) command on it from a command prompt, and see where the connection breaks down.
Not sure what that is?It's a standard IP command, which pings the destination address and traces the route the packet takes to return.

If you're running Windows 7, open the command prompt (you should find it on the Start menu, under 'Accessories'), and then type 'tracert www.bogfrog.com'.

The first address it will go to will be your router's, and then your router will forward to your ISP's DNS server. You should be able to determine where the packet is being dropped. That is of course, if it is dropped at all... it might be a browser issue, in which case the tracert output will be completed.

Yes. For checking a single website where there is no log-in required.

Not recommended for share dealing, online banking, webmail, hacking the pentagon for UFOs or anything that requires personal details. :)

I've used; http://tracert.com/ in the distant past.
This runs a tracert from many different locations. Useful for checking routing issues. Continual problems with multiple hosts is a reason why I no longer use US based hosting (unless my clients are US based..).

If its a cPanel based website, you can try to view the site via its IP address;
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~accountname

This should rule out DNS issues.

Bizarre,

Well, I am using Open DNS as I have done for many many years and I can see the websites you can't so can only assume that it is a configuration issue.

Did you flush your DNS cache?

On your mac go to a terminal window and type...

dscacheutil -flushcache

Another thing you can do is go into your network preferences on your mac , highlight the connection you use and click on "Advanced" - go to the DNS tab and enter the Open DNS servers which are..

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

The, save and apply to get out of that and then flush your DNS cache again. This will force your mac to use the above servers and let us know how you get on.
