A Frenchman was on holiday in the picturesque Highlands of Scotland. As he was driving along, he rounded a corner to find a fallen tree blocking his path, and a horrendous crash ensued. :( The emergency services found him clinging to life by the merest of threads, and worse still his blood group was so rare that the only match they could find was a chap in Aberdeen. He agreed to help, and gave as much blood as it was safe for him to donate to save the unfortunate Frenchman's life. Fortunately, the Frenchman recovered, and as soon as he was well, he sought out the Aberdonian, and pressed into his hand £1000 as a thank you for saving his life.

The following year, the Frenchman was again holidaying in Scotland, and amazingly, the same thing happened!!   This time the hospital knew exactly where to look, and quickly got the blood from the same Aberdonian . The Frenchman once again recovered, and again went to see his benefactor to thank him. Heshook him warmly by the hand, and pressed into his eager hand:

£5!!!     The Scotsman was understandably miffed and confused. " Last year I did exactly the same, and you gave me £1000. This year, £5. Why the sudden and drastic decrease? "

The Frenchman replied:

" Ah yes, but last year, I had no Scottish blood in me" . :sofa:
