2 cancellations tonight :( ... well one wasnt a confirmed booking but I got asked to pencil them in and then they phone back 30 minutes later to say they wernt going to bother.

Second one was a disco and mood lighting and they were looking for a band aswell, and theyve found a band that can "accomodate everything we hoped for"

2011 so far has been my record year for cancellations. 4 so far :(

 that's bad.

Not doing to bad at the moment (fingers crossed), but it could change.

I think a lot of it is down to the economy at the moment, we are the last things on the list for a party, especially if the organisers "mate" down the road has some Soundlab gear and a laptop who'll do it for beer.

it is about 50% said they had found someone cheeper - even after loosing there booking fee !

rest said they cant afford to take the risk of making a loss.

but as Excaliber said im in a specialist market and its been hit hard.

have started taking small flyers n cards around with me all the time and when i go into a new pub, venue or just visiting am starting to leave so hoepfully will pick some work up there.

Also as im not really into playing chart music all nite long that limits me as well, but have taken a few of em on, needs must.

Already have new rallies booking me for those who cancelled last year altho my calender is still less that a 1/4 full on this time last year.

For me it is a slower start to bookings later in the year and yet I have worked every weekend so far this year which I did not do last year. Could it be people are holding back and waiting to see if the economy picks up?

Just one of those things being self employed brings.

Just dawned on me that I get no "holiday pay" which would of been useful in April.

Thats the laws of business. Price shoppers and people with different needs.

I must have had 50 so far this month and only about 10 have confirmed so far and a few still thinking about it.
I have text them when replying and offered a free consultation at the venue before booking too.

Just the way it is - people on budgets or I am not what they were looking for :)

Bands providing uplighting now then Toby ;)

I know exactly whats happened...its another case of a band having a "friend" who can play a bit of music through their PA. To all intents and purposed the cliennt was looking for a band to complement me (and stated that numerous times in email) so its another case of a band talking :censored: to get the gig*

*Not all bands are the same, but there seems to be alot of bands round here who try to disuade people of using Discos with all sorts of horror stories etc. I know that for a fact because clients have menitioned it, and i have first hand experience of it.
