Denon DN2600F Player

Hi guys, Just purchased a very nice CD player from a derelict hotel for £25, obviously the old guy didn't have a clue what he was selling!! The player has a little wear and tear as expected but with a bit of a clean could be a decent unit, however, when I powered it up last night the right display is showing "Eeprom Error" any suggestions on what this is and if possible how it can be cleared, I was told it was an hardware problem but thought I would ask a few professionals first...;)

its to do with teh presets - if u look at the nanual - available online try to see if it will let you reset- if not then as it says will have to n be looked at

The presetting procedure can be performed in the cue or pause mode, when no disc is loaded or when the disc holder is open.

1 - Set the preset operation selection mode.

Press the PRESET button.

wise to move in the
direction of the
arrows, counterclock-
wise to move in the
opposite direction.

EOM OFF

V The first preset item displayed is the last preset item
displayed the last time the presettings were mode.


3 Change the setting.
Press the data master knob (8—9).
• When the data master knob (8—9) is turned, the
player returns to the same status as in step 2.

4 Cancel the preset mode.
Press the PRESET button.
Select the preset item.
Turn the data master knob (8—9).
PUSH ENTER
AutoCue ON

NOTE:
• If the message shown below appears, there is a problem
with the preset memory.

Sounds like he knew exactly what he was selling if you ask me, £25 for a 2600F with an EPROM error. Good luck.

Is there a battery on the board? Much the same as a computer mainboard, this could be the issue. It's worth a look.

I don't know how much they go for now, but these units used to sell for £300+, despite being about 10 years old! Would be worth repairing...

Ok seriously though, it sounds as though the main board eprom is corrupt which is not a good sign.
The only way to get this unit up and running is to re flash the rom and unless you have a rom burner and new firmware your going to be stuffed.
You can of course go to a Denon service agent and ask them to do the job, but your talking quite a lot of money to do it.
As Pete of Excalibur mentioned, you might well be better off getting another second hand unit from fleebay and pick off the good bits from it unit to make a good one.

Cheers for that. I emailed Denon through their support area and have had a reply saying that its needs to be sent to a Denon service agent as it cannot be done manually through the controls etc, they even gave me the address and contact details of a local service agent but you could be right that going down this route could be too expensive. Yes Pete did mention that a same unit is listed on an auction site with the same problem and up for spares or repair so could look at the possibility of that which sounds tempting.
