View Full Version : Speaker Cables XLR-XLR
I'm looking for some new speaker cables (for Actives)
I had real problems with sound on one speaker the other night and I am convinced it was down to cable. It was a 20m run and i think I got my Speaker and DMX cable types all mixed up.
I can't get to the back of my mixer easily so i leave 2 short length cables coming out the back of my mixer and join extensions onto that.
So I am looking for decent quality cables.
Gonna get 2 x 1m lengths and then several 10m lengths so i can go short or long easily.
Is this a good idea and what should I get?
Are the Van Damme ones on ebay ok ?
Do I need Mic cables or something specific?

Well in my humble opinion, they aren't speaker cables. They're signal cables. Twinspin nearly made this mistake, see here.

Personally, for anything like this, I'd look at that old favourite CPC. ;)
As far as I know, you're basicallylooking for microphone cables, not speaker or DMX. ( Although, just to confuse things, as far as I know, DMX cables would be OK. )

Are some signal cables better for longer runs and more likely to perform ok if i need to join lengths together?

The only advice I can give here is that I believe higher priced/named brands would be better than el cheapo. Also, while the idea of using varying lengths of cable to achieve the correct length seems attractive, I'd personally avoid more joints than strictly necessary, but that's just me being a bit paranoid.
Someone should be along soon to recommend a good brand, I'd hope. Something like this. http://cpc.farnell.com/_/g038rb/xlr-microphone-lead-with-klotz/dp/AV09031
