off topic but in your hire section on your website you have a grand ma - do you hire them then?

Charlie Brown

It could be worded a bit better perhaps?

What market are you aiming at?

Birthdays etc aren't interested in theatre productions etc.

One Word: Bland

Nothing says wow about them tbh.

You need to re-write this, as it is grammatically wrong :

Horizon Events are a small events company based in Wokingham, Berkshire, Providing mobile discos, Private parties, fetes, school/amateur theatre and concerts and Equipment dry hire.

"Horizon Events is a small events company based in Wokingham, Berkshire. We provide mobile discos, private parties, fêtes, school/amateur theatre and concerts, and equipment dry hire."

Otherwise it looks good. If you're going to circulate it electronically, I'm not too sure about pdf format myself... I'd go with .doc. Most of the computers at the hospital I work in don't have a pdf reader installed, amazingly enough.

No we do not hire the Grand ma - It is a stock image that I found.

A small, insignificant thing. But your phone number should ideally be broken up into, 5-3-3 not 4-3-4

i.e. 0772 568 7887
flows better as 07725 687 887

I also agree with the above comments, looks very amateur.

I do however like the selection of small photographs.

Try to get a faint background, so it's not pure white staring you in the face.

Like the one you 'found' for your logo?

You're going to come a right cropper, Tom, 'borrowing' these images that you have absolutely no legal right to use!

You have been told several times, but just to make it clear once and for all... IT'S THEFT!

Cowlinn

Where did you buy the image from, Tom?

The one I am using for my logo is one that I bought from a Stock image site. (http://www.freedigitalphotos.net)

The image I think Chris is talking about, http://www.horizon-events.co.uk/_/rsrc/1294057305479/equipment-hire/Lighting%20desk.JPG?height=150&width=200 Is one that a friend of mine has given me. Taken at an even they have done. I can even name the person should you require me to, to prove I can use it.

Hence this disclaimer:

*All photos on this website are taken by Tom Lovick, Matthew Chambault or Given to Horizon Events by the owner, and are copyrighted for use only on Horizon Events website and promotional flyers and leaflets*

Landlines are the best port of call.

I am looking into getting one of these 'Vonage' Phone lines to use as a landline.

Hence this disclaimer:I really do hope that you have now taken on board what people have said to you and that you have purchased the stock image now, and that the other one is from a friend of yours (and that he had rights to it). The problem is 'the little boy who cried wolf' syndrome here, because we have been around the block a few times with this before.

Yep I have bought the stock image now and it is the one in my new logo:
http://www.horizon-events.co.uk/_/rsrc/1294018726137/config/customLogo.gif?revision=12

I also have the rights to the other image from the friend who took the photo.

Thanks,

Tom

Care to expand on that one? Sounds like your selling windows and door frames here not a professional disco service.

Ha ha, you must be a mind reader. That was my EXACT thoughts when I read the flyer, read the rest of the thread before I posted (luckily) :)

One other observation Tom, I really prefer your Horizon signature image that you use on this forum to the sunrise thingy.

This image: Sunrise at First Sight (http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/Sunset_And_Sunrise_g108-Sunrise_At_First_Sight_p23246.html) - look at the options down the right. Free with acknowledgement (link back) or can be purchased, starting at $5 for the size Tom needs. If Tom has said he bought it how can you possibly prove otherwise?

And if Tom hasn't then that's his problem. I've had clients been billed £1,000 for a stock image they "thought were OK to use" in their own design. That's £1,000 per image. There are very sophistaced automated tools which the rights owners use to find copyright infringements, nomatter how skewed / cropped / colourised / flipped or edited it has been from the original. It's only a matter of time before you get caught if you use unlicensed stock images...

Edit: I don't like the flyer Tom.

Actually, just read this from http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/help/acknowledgement/terms.php : -

Prohibited use - applies to free and paid-for versions
1.Images may not be used on products where the image is the sole reason (or a very strong reason) why someone would buy the product - for example greetings cards, mugs, calendars, T-shirts and so on
2.Images may not be used as a logo, trademark or other corporate identity.

So you might have to revisit that one, Tom!

Don't like it, sorry.

Too many words...

Images are too small...

It's all very bland and boring.

Not a very effective use of the page at all, there must be what....as much white space as there is text and images. Use the WHOLE page, you're paying for the ink and paper!

And as for image theft? Slap slap slap.

In fact, the 4th image along, the one with the scanner mirror and pink beam that looks like a horizontally reversed version of one of my own images from a previous incarnation of my website...i'll try and dig it out and shame on YOU if it is mine...

I would just put one really good pic on it and ditch any photos of equipment/light
shows with empty dancefloors as the average party goer could not really give a stuff. :)

Remember to add bleed if your getting that printed as you will end up with half the text cut into. :)

Positive :)

That is clearly visible on the FAQ page of the site that Tom linked to.

As they say, theres no such thing as a free lunch lol

Tom, I think a logo revision may be in order before you put anything into print.

He shouldnt be printing anything at all using that image in his logo. It is also on his website which could cause him problems.

Depends really, I can't imagine 500 of these flyers being distributed anywhere where they'll be effective. But a couple of dozen to be put up on notice boards would be better printed at home.

Logo - as a quick fix just drop the picture for the moment, you can source a usable one at your leisure, getting your promotional stuff out asap should be your priority.
