New Vehicle

Due to expanding gear and new arrival of our daughter I'm thinking of going down the mpv route. I will be doing quite a lot of gigs down the country over the year where I could possibly stop-over at my parents or in-laws and it would be nice to bring my family with me and make a trip of it (if I have no other gigs that weekend :)) Any mpv owners out there care to comment or recommend their choices? At the moment the Ford S max seems to meet my needs but heard good things also about the Zafira, peugot 5008 and VW touran. thanks

I Have a Zafira B a bit bigger than the older versions plenty of room rear seats fold in to the floor when not in use with all seats down its like a van, Cheaper on road tax than others in its class 42mpg Deisel I love it

Got a Zafira Diesel sat in my driveway....dead! fuel pump gone and a replacement cost of £1200....:eek: , also other faults include central locking failure, faulty fuel gauge, a very expensive MPV to repair. Just bought a VW Touran so see what this brings..

I've got a Renault Scenic and a 2006 on Ford Galaxy, but used to have a Chrysler Voyager. The Galaxy is the bigger version of the S-Max and our family car, and I'd thoroughly recommend it (nice ride, pretty powerful for a 2l diesel, good economy, good handling, massive load capacity and the fold flat seats are great too) - but I wouldn't put my rig in it, it's too nice for that :D The Scenic is the car which gets used for gigging and with the seats down I get a pair of tops, lights, decks and stands in it easily. With the 3 rear seats taken out I used to get the bass bins in as well! But it's use shows on the interior. Metal stands and flight cases don't do modern plastic interiors any good at all - which is why I don't use the Galaxy for gigs.

One comment I've heard a few times is that the interiors on both the Galaxy and the Zafira's are pretty soft and flimsy, so I suspect that if I did start putting kit in the Galaxy, it'd quickly get wrecked.

On the price of parts, I'd expect Ford and Vauxhall parts to be on a par price wise. After all, Ford want £400.00 for a towbar (£300 of which is the wiring loom!)

If you want a family sized TANK. Buy a Voyager :D With the rearmost row of seats taken out (which isn't for the faint hearted as they weigh a ton) you can get a rig in the boot, and still get 4 people in the car. With all the rear seats out, you could get about 3 rigs in, the load space is about 7'l x 4'w x 4'h! However, they're expensive cars as they're not very economical (2.5 tons of car).

Oh yeah, and if you want a family sized Shed, buy a Kia Sedona (which is a complete rip off of the Voyager) as once the cam belt snaps, that's about all it'll be good for :D

I use a Nissan QashQai +2 - plenty of room for both DJ kit and the family :)
