Help with business plan for grant from Princes Trust

Hi people,
To cut a long story short I no longer have any DJ Gear as I used to borrow from a local youth centre I used to volunteer for. I really enjoyed DJing for parties so I'd like to start my own business and get my own gear which obviously isn't cheap so I've contacted The Princes Trust.

Before I can even try and get a grant I need to do a business plan which includes a list of everything I will need and the price of each item aswel as a total. I plan on getting a little better gear than I used to have so looking at mixers arounf £150-£200 each.

The only problem is I don't understand the specs of things.

Will THIS (http://www.disco-world.co.uk/amplifiers/intimidation-vlv-800-power-amplifier/prod_1266.html) amp worth with THESE (http://www.disco-world.co.uk/speakers/intimidation-aka112-speakers-pair-/prod_1483.html) speakers?

Looks like yes they would but what do they sound like and you will only have 400 watts a side.

Best bet go and have a listern and find out what you like.

Remember you have to listern toi it every time you set up it will become part of you.

You realy need to listern and try every item you buy before you buy it make sure you are happy wiith it.


You have have to decide quite a lot before you even start thinking about buying.

What sort of audience you are going to play to?

What size of venue?

Then go to shops and look around and ask as many questions as possible.

You need hands on to find out.

Then what sort of media you going to play it on?

Again each to their own.

Please do ot think oh this what so and so does it might not suit you.

Try it first.

There is a lot to take in so that will do you for now.

You got over the first hurdle by asking.

Just get some Mackie thumps they will save you allot of hastle.
Better sound for the price and the do not weigh much.

Plug it in and bobs your uncle. all you then need are some lights.

200 peeps in sit down venue and your struggling.

50 kids in a village hall and there great.

Horses for courses. etc.

Blue Dragon go and try it all out first dont just ask him to quote you.

Its very important that YOU try it please re read my post.

You can then look around and you have an idea of what you are looking for. prices will vary from shop to shop and then the tinter net

Not sure on this. When I had my Mackie 450 V2, with them and a DB Sub 15, for 300+ people they were fine. No issues what so ever.


As for the Mackie Thumps, I quite like the sound of these and for the money, they are good buy!

I did the same before finding this forum, my gear has arrived this morning and im going to be having lots of fun playing with it later however i have a dmx light controller i will probably never use all my lights are sound to light the speakers i have got are huge please please go and look feel and play with any gear first before buying.....

Danny, please don't go for the gear you linked to. Bad idea. Something like W audio is a good budget brand, for example. Mackie/Mackie Thump actives are a fairly safe bet if you want active cabs.
