If you are serious about your logos, you should register it with the Patent Office, costs around £400 in total and takes several months to gain approval and a patent

Callum

I would be very careful if I were you, as you could be accused of the tort of passing off.

With regards to internet presence, your domain was registered in May this year, whereas cddiscos.co.uk was registered in 2004.

If you are using the same name or a permutation that could be seen to deliberately confuse or misrepresent, then you are treading on very thin ice.

I would certainly suuggest you do not adopt "the original" within your logo or advertising, as this would most likely, and justifiably, result in action against you.

To be honest, there are loads of different companies called 'Eclipse' (which is my disco name), and other common names. I don't think it's gonna be a problem, and the worst case scenario is that another disco gets a court order to make you drop the name.

...or the most obvious (I think).... CD Entertainment

1. Incorporates the 'CD' part which is the thing that means something personal to you - ie Callum & Duane

2. Gives you the room to grow

3. Distinguishes you from those near you with a similar name

Can't you contact your domain provider asking them to cancel the registration of the domain, possibly Nominet.co.uk . However, i would do this after designing your new site for the obvious reasons.

Good luck with the renaming process though Callum :thumbs_up

Shaun
21-08-2006, 12:08 PM
You would be better not cancelling (let it run till it expires). You can forward all traffic from that domain to your new one.

Just to address a couple of things:

To point the domain to your new site
Alter the DNS/MX records to point to the address of your new host. Will usually be an IP address or in the form of: xx1.yourhost.com and xx2.yourhost.com

You can do this from the control panel of your domain registrar, or alternativley, ask your web host to complete the move for you.

Domain Registration
Cheapest place ive found to register domains, is 123reg.co.uk and they have a good, simple control panel that makes domain admin easy. A .co.uk will set you back about £6.

General Advice
Make sure that your logo design matches your website design. As far as logo's go, the simpler the better, no need to go OTT with designs. Stick to a couple of colours, with your company title and tag line.

Cheers
