The importance of contracts

I went along to set up alans rig for tonights gig only to find that another disco company had already set up.I explained to the manager that i had confirmed booking for this venue for tonight,He replied that he thought the lady organising the party had asked him for a disco.I said can i have the other djs contact number so i could phone him and talk to him about it.It turns out that the hotel had booked the dj and not the person who booked me,

I just pulled out my signed contract and showed it to the hotel manager,he could not argue with that so he phoned his dj to come and collect his gear.

It just proves the importance of having a signed booking form\contract,if i did not have this then who knows what was to happen,

I hope so for his sake as it'll enable him to still get his money out of the venue.

From our point of view (and the customers) - who cares! It's the venues problem for making the mistake!

I did a gig once (like 1998 a long time ago!) where I had been booked by the bride and had a signed contract. The groom also booked another DJ and had a signed contract. So we both turned up at the same time, both pulled out our signed contracts, it was very funny. In the end we both did the gig and the Bride and Groom paid us both our full fee in cash at the end of the night, it was a great gig!

I had very much the same a few years ago and we used the other DJs stuff as he was half set-up first, actually my kit wasn't up to much then and his was better so I didn't mind it.

A lot of my stuff is for hotels and I do use contracts except for when they ring me last minute, thing is its not always easy to enforce and I end up allowing them to get away with stuff, the most common is a cancellation but then they say here's another date so I accept the fact that they give me lots of work and let them off. Guess its swings and roundabouts because if I got stroppy there are lots waiting to take the work off me.

Nope no contract.it was an agreement between him and the hotel.Apparantly the hotel manager said that they always recommend him.I spoke with the other dj myself and i asked if he had a written contract,his reply..............no

Well as it happens we both had the same speakers so as the room was quite large we put them together but be used the opportunity to mix and match and try different things. The end result being I fell in love with his Peavey DPC-1000 and DPC-750 amps which I eventually bought.

Never take the origional.... Leave that at home... Take a copy as i wont matter if it gets messed up then.

Nope.

I jot down all the relevant information (times/names/address etc) but leave the actual document at home.

i turned up to a kids party one afternoon a few years back, to find another disco setting up. Turned out the client had booked two discos, incase one didnt turn up!

I got paid, and went home again
