It's one of the questions I ask the venue when I contact them before the event.

Many aren't bothered about the finer (literally) distinction between smoke and haze and if it's a no to smoke machines the same usually applies to haze, regardless of how you explain it.

Knowing beforehand means it's another bit of kit you don't need to load up.

Don't usually bother to take mine to many places these days, as I already know the answer - only comes out for Marquees. But if a client asked for one, I would check with the venue.

Also unique hazard are crap. The colleges one I user the fan contoller is stuck on 100%. The local hire company has a bank of 5 of them and they have all went the same way. Nothing they have done could fix it so its rather useless really.

TBH, i used to just use a sparing amount without asking especially if i'd seen other dj's use it in that venue however everywhere I go now has denied the use of haze/smoke now so I don't even bother taking it anymore.

I'll agree that lights look better with haze/smoke though but any new lights that I buy now will need to look great without otherwise they'll stay in the shop.

For local venues always go and have a dry run with the venue manager if you demonstrate its ok they seem to be happy.

We have just added a look unique to our stock and I'm sure you would get away with it on (on a low setting) and it wouldn't set any alarms off. It is expensive but an amazing bit of kit. Jon took one to a 3000 venue in December and had it running on 1/2 power and it still filled the venue.

Venue managers will normally isolate it for us. Although having said that, we have only had it for 8 weeks or so haven't spoke to too many GM's about it.

Can you be 100% certain it won't set off alarms? OK, so it hasn't so far.....
But without re-assurance from the manufacturer would you take the risk?

The thing with the look unique is that it's fully controllable and so you could have the fan on 100 out of 100 and the haze set to 1 out of 50.

This setting is much less than a single cigarette and so could most definitely be used and not set off a fire alarm.

I know :( My lighting looks SO much better through haze.

Frankly, it's pants without it :lol:

Take this example of hazers behaving badly: college show. All detectors in the theatre are off. All of a sudden 4 fire units are outside! Reason: the back stage area had detectors that know one knew about. Due to actors coming in and off stage the haze came back stage and triggered them! Sometimes it's not just about Turing the ones in the room off but ones in other rooms close by!

The reason I cant use them is apparently the haze gets sucked through the air conditioning and blown out at the bar, resulting in the bar staff not being able to see :eek:

Thats why as i posted do dry run,i use hazers on a regular basis and sometimes have to use mineral type if the fire system is very sensitive ,if you do your home work and research things will be fine,if you watch any entertainment show there is always haze so it is possible.
