i dont know many rock dj's near my area and im thinking there may be a market for this ontop of the usual mobile stuff.

im quite good with all genres of rock and been to a few rock nightclubs in my area and reckon i can do a better job. how would you go about offering yourself as a rock dj.

i dont want it to effect my usual discos so would need to advertise it seperately. is that a good or bad thing.

i would like to get a residency in one of these rock clubs especially as they have dancing women on the bars like coyote ugly.

You really have to be on your game when DJing rock music, there isn't a 'commercial' chart as such that everyone listens too, and usually people want obscure album tracks rather than the single releases, you either have to find a genre and stick to it, or purchase a hell of a lot of music!

Most of the rock DJ's around here have been doing it for years, and they flit between venues when somewhere new opens up. You might be best off going to have a chat with a few, express your interest and over time you might get your break, alternatively if you can find a local live music venue, try and get in there, DJ between bands (although most sound engineers - myself included, usually just use an iPod with a generic playlist)

It's not like club DJing where you can simply throw a mix together and get it into the club owners hands, I think it's more a case of who you know initially (and what you know in terms of the vastness of the 'rock' genre)

Also, don't be afraid to mix things up a bit. There's a venue in Newcastle called Krash, and they've played Metal, Screamo, Punk, Thrash all night....then finished the night with Children of the night :D

A room of 200+ rockers raving their boxes off was quite a sight! :D

i have done a few nights with battle of the bands and i always suprise people with what rock i know. been to monsters of rock a few times. i actaully have more rock musc than anything else but rarely take it with me to gigs as i never get asked for it. i usually do a classic rock hour somewhere in my gig which people seem to like. i have been to the rock clubs and im usually one of the rockers jumping around like an idiot but i have also been to them when sober and still know i can put songs on to get everyone going.

as you said might be worth me having a chat with the djs there and see how it goes. they are open everyday of the week. i spend loads on rock music for my personal pleasure and actually like non commercial bands aswel.

last time i went to a rock club i asked for five finger death punch and they didnt have it. but downloaded it for me and then played it. went down a storm.

I'd advise creating a separate website. Far easier to market yourself as a Rock DJ if you have a dedicated site. I have no problem with my two sites, and I know anyone booking me via www.indieretrodj.com are like minded people into their music and that's a great starting point for getting the booking.

think i will start by making 1 website first then move on to making another. i have some free webspace from djpli so i will look into doing that.

i see your a biker aswel. i have done a few discos for the virago stars and the goldwings who have a seperate event in my rugby club every year. they are mad nights and usually supply there own band aswel. it always makes me want to buy a virago dragster especially when they bring there bikes into the clubs hall and start ripping up the dancefloor with the bikes. no need for a smoke machine as they do it all for me haha

Did an all nighter birthday bash in a barn in he middle of nowhere for some bikers once (it was so dusty I didn't need a smoke machine) - at midnight they bought in a restored Triumph Bonneville for the birthday girl. Excellent night!
