But thats not really telling you anything- a venue might offer a room and DJ for £75 but then have to pay the DJ £500.
They're happy because they take £xxx over the bar.

Toby welcome to my world.It seems that just about every enquiry that i reply to these days i am told that i am way to expensive and that they can get a dj for £100.

Some of these "cheaper djs" must be very busy round my way just now going by the ammount of enquiries that ive had.

But as has been said many times before, this has always been the case and always will be the case. Granted, times are a little tougher than previous years but people are still getting married and many people who still remain in secure employment have more disposable income as their main outgoing (mortgages) has dropped significantly over the past 3 years.

I don't know what market you aim at, and please take this in the spirit that it's intended, but if I look at your website the first thing I see is some out of date Christmas decorations and a flashy light that IMO doesnt scream high end professional disco.

I know my site isn't perfect or anywhere near as good as some of the pro sites on hear, but given that your site is your "shop window" you could do a lot worse than spend some time giving it a little makeover.

Without going too far off topic I would suggest binning 90% of your response email as it just read "Me me me me" to me or rather You you you you" try something like "Client client client you"

It's true there are even more of these type of responses nowadays and if the enquirer cannot see the benefit of booking a decent DJ then hopefully her friends will when they see this "Party" fall on its backside.

Just out of interest will the venue throw the Buffet and Stripper in at that price too? :)

For your information i am a well respected dj with "mid to high" prices.

I can get good money during the wedding season but jan\feb\march round my way is difficult times with my prices.I have to draw the line somewhere and say that is the lowest price i can go out for.

I didn't say that you weren't mid-high.
I just get fed up of people moaning about others offering lower prices and I made a comment on your site, which I don't think was out of line or unfair.
If you went to a mid-high end hotel website and it had Christmas decorations up in February wouldn't it put you off?

There is something dodgy as I can see a decent DJ getting paid for that unless they are a regular and
doing it for drinks or a hobby DJ with equipment supplied?
The average cheap price for a DJ is about £150 round here.

Its a 21st so not too technical - just need the chart?

The room hire is definitely free unless the DJ is getting £25 :p

The venue may well pay the DJ more than £75 and be happy to do so because they know they will make £xxx over the bar or in food.

They probably get no more than the bar staff rate - in fact they probably are bar staff and DJ duties are rostered like any of their shifts, and seen as a better option than working behind the bar all night!

Local pub to me has a free functions room - was chatting to the landlord about what they do for weddings etc. and he said they supply the amps, speakers and a few flashing lights, the customers plug their iPods in and that's it sorted!

I had an argument with a venue the other day who told my client he was stupid to pay such money for myself as his "resident" DJ would have done it for 1/2 the price.. and my client then had to remind the venue owner his resident DJ was rubbish and her sound system was dull and is giving him a bad name.. he should offer someone professional like myself who does a proper job and is actually a DJ and not a overpaid cd player.

Got a call yesterday from someone who knew my price and was recommended by the said venue and booked then and there. Must have had a change of heart.
