Back up controller

With so many new bits of hardware making an appearance I am so tempted to let my DDS80 and HDD unit go, but I am wondering what to use as a back up.

I now have the Denon MC6000 and just need a small back up player that is not huge, but is small and portable that doesn't suffer the issues of database building, and doesn't warrant a huge case to cart it around.

Any suggestions greatfully received.

Darren, by that do you mean use a netbook with an external usb soundcard?

I personally think the ipod would be hard work for playing out continually, but would give time to play a couple of tracks if the main laptop fell over.

I am liking the idea of the netbook as I have one (bought for dmx control) and I have a spare USB sound card.

I already carry a flight cased mixer and Denon HD2500 in case the MC6000 dies completely. The backup for me is to play music while the laptop is rebooted if the software crashes etc, hence the idea if using something simple such as an IPod or net book. I do have another USB sound card but think that would be overkill for a couple of tunes, just to get the main play out up and running again.

Hmmm kinda makes sense - have the ipod in the aux 1 in and switch over if the laptop dies.

just out of curiosity have you managed to crash the laptop while using the MC6000 and if so what software were you using? Traktor or VDJ?

I have had no crashes yet with VDJ although I have only used it live over two weeks.

VDJ and try as I might, I couldn't get it to crash. I thought I did the other day, but I disabled the buttons on the mixer by mistake.

well that's a good sign as I hear a few traktor users are having a few issues with their software - to be honest once you have VDJ on a good stable, low latency laptop/pc it shouldn't give any issues.

I'm just happy not to take out so much kit.

I have a new mixer/controller, new lighting and new speakers and I am not sure whether to try them all out at once! All I have been doing for the last week or two is testing, testing and more testing!
