Is it time that as an association that we had Local Area Representatives that actively looked for new members or placed adverts in local papers by sponsorship of say local business groups or chambers of commerce ie Lions groups as to promote our good intentions around the likes of say the licenced trade and general public
Obviously this member would have to be voted in by say an internet poll in a thread, this member would say also be able to travel about to see members in there own areas and view there disco's if asked to accompany and be able to give advice if needed or hold general recruitment meetings say in cities or towns local hotel or simular venues
It would be time consuming and fruitlessto start with. no Im not exactly in a position to do this it would need someone willing to push our association to greater heights in each area as well as a lot of patience. the later Im short of???

Sorry Badger, but there wouldn't possibly be someone who'd have the time, money or patience to do this at this time.
Plenty of ideas are posted on forums, but does anyone actually do anything about them?
Very few in my experience.

We did do something along those lines last year to promote our existence; we got 'volunteers' to cover each area, and I drafted something that everyone could send out to other DJs to tell them about it.
The whole idea of the MDA was that everyone would have a voice, and it wouldn't be 'elected representatives', or the few doing everything - any member with an idea and the will to get it done could post up an idea and see what everyone thought of it, and so long as everyone was consulted along the way and agreement reached (eg approval of what was to be sent and where it was to be sent, etc) then it was a goer (if you'll excuse the expression).
If you want to arrange a meeting in your area, post it up and see who would be interested.

i would be up for this in the scotland area, i feel that it would bea great idea, and would maybe help to get Dj's who are not members or even aware of the MDA interested and educate them in the best practises

Lets face it theres 12 areas thats 12 representatives each could be voted in by there local discos or be sent an email or letter as to the effect of a position for someone to help promote there area with the blessing of admin put each area to a vote once the word is out for each area could then apply for the position and then members could vote for there area representative a job description should/will be required as that they can not exceed there postion it is after all an unpaid position and only there to promote themselves and there area members towards the MDA

Remember the core values of the site and were almost there just a case of getting your local disco's around you to attend a meeting in a local or send them letters or give them flyers asking them to join up as it would be in there benefit if nothing they would get free advertising in the directory

You know how I feel about this one Wabbit. I would love to see that happen and indeed I tried to do my little bit along with Mick and Marie a little while ago, but with very very little support from existing members, let alone other non-MDA shows.
If you feel like having another crack at the Eastern area, I'm sure you would get all the support you need and I for one would be more than happy to help out, but I have a sad sad feeling that apathy might win out on this one - I really hope it doesn't though!
And by the way, I was never ever more than an interested party who tried to kick things off - never a representative for anyone other than myself (well, certainly not an elected representative!)

Sorry to put a downer on this, but we can't even get people to meet up once a year!
Three forum meets so far and virtually the same people every time.
And less then 15 people.

We've managed to get a local branch of NADJ running based in Merthyr Tydfil and have had DJs in Cardiff refusing to travel 23 miles, as its too far! - I did see a lot of comment from the Eastern Region that the NADJ AGM was too far away in Birmingham!! so you'll probably have the same problem.
