View Full Version : No leads from MDD

Although this is an excellent forum, the directory hasn't generated any leads (that I am aware of) for me and doesn't seem to get a high ranking in searches.
There seems to be a lot of expertise on here regarding all things web related so maybe we could get MDD as visible and used as some others out there. I do think the search facility for customers is excellent for them to search in their area for a disco. Really straight forward and one of the best out there!

ooh I had my first from here the other day and got the gig due to it being a charity close to my heart and giving a cheaper quote

Errrr.... probably just the last bit, actually :p

I think I have had one enquiry in three/four years
Most of the listing directory enquiries are price orientated anyway so I am not too bothered (amp DJ springs to mind)
I want a client who is searching for quality entertainment and understand the benefit of it (instead of allocating the extra £2-300 on her dress or cake etc.)
UK disco seem to do well. simple site but as long as the client can find what they want then thats all that matters.

I couldnt quote a normal gig price as it`s for a lad that lives near me and a load of air hostesses raising funds for him, Believe me when I say i nearly quoted FREE but thought better of it, And NO it was not because of the air hostesses ;) ;)

One of my best paying gigs came from a lead via the MDD.
In the past few years, i've had about 4 or 5 leads in total.

I don't pay for a listing on here so I don't expect any leads, but the forums have put around 15 gigs my way since I joined.

Yes I had two leads I think since joining but I have got a few gigs from networking on the forum which I think is where you need to focus.

I have never had an enquiry via the directory form. However, I do monitor my web stats closely and regularly get potential customers visiting our website who have come via the MDD directory.
In fact, we had our biggest ever paying gig from this site last year.

Really?
I've just had a look back over the last few months and I've had 9 via my MDD directory form since the end of August.

Really? No - all the ones I get via MDD click on the website link and complete the form on my website.
I certainly get more business via this site than any other we've tried.... albeit not via the directory form.
Strange how we all get such differing experiences of the same thing, isn't it?
To those of you who say you don't get any enquiries from MDD: do you monitor your web stats to see how people arrived at your site?

The only traffic I get is from the threads themselves so 95% sure its other Dj's checking out my site rather than customers.

No it doesn't.
The O in SEO stands for "optimisation". Getting inbound links isn't optimisation. It's recommended good practice, and it helps your page rank (assuming it's not a dodgy site), and it should definitely be considered alongside SEO, but the action in itself isn't SEO.

I've just looked at the Yorkshire and Humberside listings and I'm not at all surprised if that section doesn't generate many listings. Some of the entries include website links that don't work (ok I'm using an old browser so that could be down to me), websites that don't inspire no USP's and so on.
I reckon the free listings mechanism is fine and it should be productive in the right circumstances but, for want of a better phrase, you can't expect the site to make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

Yes it does. I'd argue it's commonly called off-site SEO, whereas what you do to your own site is (obviously) on-site SEO.

If someone was not thinking about the area that they were looking for a disco and they just typed " mobile disco" this site comes up near the top of the search results, infact it is the first unsponsered listing.

Well, you and I are in the same region and, as I mentioned, I get quite a few hits from the directory to my site.
Do you monitor your web stats and where people have come from?
I looked at your advert and you don't appear to have verified PAT/PLI/ProDub. Since MDD tries to promote these things and everyone listed around you is certified via MDD, maybe people are ignoring your listing.
If they do click for more information, your advert doesn't appear as if much effort gone into it, IMO. Again, maybe people are choosing to contact others instead of you.

Exactly. Other directories that are generating leads are page 1. I was just wondering if MDD is working to improve their ranking as I think it is a very user friendly site and seems such a waste not to be up there with the others.

Take your point about description and have now submitted an update.
The PLI and PAT is charged for to be verified and, having looked through the listings in several areas, I note that like me very few have chosen this option.

We have had a few discussions: there's always things that can be done to improve and we do continue to do so. I can't say very much ATM though.
One of the ways that some other directories obtain higher rankings is by asking free listings to have a link back to the directory. This is something that we have resisted... up until now anyway, but we may have to re-visit that stance again at some point in the future.

I'm sure the users on here will be happy to put up a link. I certainly can. Just ask! It's in everyone's interest after all.

It's a manual process, so it does depend on how much other work is on at the time, but usually it's pretty quick :)
