How many disco gigs a month ??

Just after a bit of a guide here. I am very pleased with the amount of overall bookings I have at the moment, but noticed a definite drop in my disco bookings. For those who don't know I also provide race night services which now bring in a majority of my income.

I am averaging 3/4 total gigs a week but have only done 4 actual disco's this year which I am a bit concerned about should the race nights tail off (which does happen in the summer).

So roughly how many DISCO gigs are you currently averaging a month at the moment ??

Before I retired my run rate was 100-110 per annum, so 8 or 9 per month.

That was as a full time business.

for 2011 at the moment 1 a month which isnt good enough but at the moment im getting the enquiries from the wedding disco but converting them its just not happening at the moment.

Hopefully things might improve soon. I hope so.

a person charging £400 needs to do half as much as someone charging £200 assuming the outgoings are the same.

I just have to work out how to charge £1500 a gig.
I could then put my feet up for three weeks.

No, if I want I could be out at least 8 times a month doing a disco easily. However I am looking at roughly how many gigs people are getting for their fee.

I put up my saturday rate last autumn and it didn't affect the wedding bookings for this coming summer but the other party stuff doesn't seem as prevalent. Don't know if my increase did it or there's less of that stuff around due to the recession. I'm aware of some I've lost to cheaper quotes but enquiries generally seem down.

I'd agree with that!
I had a client meeting earlier and despite 1 hour of listening to them, their requirements and the fact they had come to me as they saw me at a wedding in september 2010 and wanted "exactly that", I quoted them accordingly yet they said that they couldn't afford my fee yet if i dropped by £25 they could?!:confused:

Things are not looking too shabby but I am quite down on bookings compared to last year and it all seems to be for a matter of £20!
Perhaps there will be an influx of last minute jobbies!

Hi Chris, are you still getting the same amount of interest though.

My year so far is looking like:-

Jan - 5 discos & 1 race night
Feb - 4 discos
Mar - 6 discos, & a PA & lighting hire.

On average, the race night and PA hire have given a welcome lift to the 1st quarter of the year, and things pick up nicely from April onwards.

Rollerdisco 75 to 100 CRAZY SCREAMING KIDS
( Love the Gig honest!!!)



i know "Its grim up North " but for a full time DJ its really not that bad..

Maybe think about techniques for nailing a deposit on first contact? Generic PayPal page on the website? Much less likely to mess you about if they've already put their hands in their pocket.

I do 2 or 3 every week,so between 10 and 14 a month,I am fully booked July and august every fri and sat with wedding.So i am up this year from last and i put my prices up.

All mine are £175 - £345 (depends on hours and rig size)

But I am doing 2/3 a week paid and 1 a week free (recently not the norm), (wedding Fairs, Prom Fairs)

I'd agree with that. I can't remember the last time I did something that wasn't a wedding, a booking from a hotel (i.e.: Xmas parties) or a formal dinner/dance.

I've always tended to get booked pretty late, and have no idea why....probably desperation :o . However, in terms of stuff in the diary, I'm probably up on last year already. Three in January, two in February, three in March so far. I wouldn't say no to being out every Saturday night, but give me 2-3 a month and I'm exceedingly happy.

I've got my first gig this Friday and my first wedding on Sunday. Lucky that I've got my bar/club gigs to keep me going. I think this year is going to be a good one for myself but hard to gauge it against last year as only went full time half way through.

Disco's at the moment - 2 booked in for the next three months :eek:

However, they're padded out with karaoke, quiz nights and kids parties (which seem to be getting quite popular this year and I only did my first proper "kids party" last month!!).

I'm also investing in the uplighting and projector services that we're offering from April so hopefully this will bring in extra work.

That's actally a bad way of putting it sales-wise, Chris, as it gives the client the opportunity to say "no". I better way of doing it is to say "Well, let's get you booked in. How do you want to pay your deposit?". Unless they're really unhappy about going ahead and booking you they'll give you an answer there and then.

Problem at the moment is that most enquiries are not getting past the "HOW MUCH???!!!" stage!

Its only February.

I have a had a lot of calls for bookings for the summer and when I say the price I don't here from them again.

I'm not bothered though - I should get booked anyway and Ive worked it out that I will earn the same as last year and be ale to take 22 nights off if i charge the new price compared to last year :)

I seriously expect to work EVERY weekend night this year, same as last year.

what I mean though is I don't need to worry about people not booking me at my new price because to gross the same as last year (which was a good year) I can afford to not work 22 nights of this year.
