My gig this coming Friday night is Here (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=51.446582,-2.594903&num=1&t=h&sll=51.447671,-2.603701&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&ie=UTF8&ll=51.446659,-2.594179&spn=0.001959,0.004823&z=18&layer=c&cbll=51.446749,-2.594172&panoid=sOEUCGQmG3cKddDYtZDw-A&cbp=12,250.88,,2,2.95).

I've played on it before, and while the load in is a pain and head room leaves a little to be desired (6' to the ceiling from the stage floor), the acoustics are great :)

Has anyone else had any "interesting" venues lately?

Looks fun - Whats the occasion? What gear will you be using?

It's a local Netball team's presentation evening/Valentines ball. I've DJ'd for them a few times and they always seem to find interesting venues. The last one I did was in a pub in North Bristol where the venue provided me with a nice set of Mackie SRM-450's on top of a pair of SWA1801's saving me from lugging in my own kit!

The inside of the Boat is actually surprisingly big (capacity 100!) and done out really nicely with a stage and seating on the lower level and bar towards the stern. The last time I went in with my deckstand and couldn't get the bar up, so ended up strapping a pair of Acme Falcon's on to the top of my speakers!!

This is from the last time:

10817

This time round though, it'll be my usual JBL JRX115's with a T-bar at the rear of the stage with a pair of Puma's and a Vue III (more than enough for the size of the boat).

Unfortunately no smoke machines allowed (as the outer hull is wood, so there are smoke detectors throughout the boat!)

Well that event sucked. Last years charity valentines ball had about 90 guests and a great atmosphere, something this years sorely lacked.

They had about 45 guests in total - about 35 of those didn't turn up until gone 9:00, and 10 of those were "some friends someone bought along" which really meant that they sat around in a little group by themselves complaining and then disappeared into town at 11:00 (the event finished at 00:45).

I had 1 request all night (Baby got back - which bombed) and zero dancers, until I announced the last song of the night when all 10 of the people remaining got up and danced, and then put in four requests.... Which luckily I was allowed to play because the venue were flexible on the end time.

Even more frustrating were the comments at the end, "Great set!", "Loved the music", etc etc and the fact that they screwed me down on the price (on the basis that this is the third function I've done for this group and there are more to come).
