View Full Version : Martin Light Jockey Rocks
Had my first lesson on light jockey today. Its going to take a few more lessons to get up to speed, but I was just amazed at how much I can do with 4 MX4's, Some LED pars and a couple of EFX 500 (when I get the second one).
Really looking forward to getting stuck in. Particularly with creating shows for the vocal acts. CAn set the whole thing to run in line with media player so when I start the backing track the light show I will have designed will be perfectly synced with it.
Just need a touch screen lap top now and the whole thing will be very cool.
Many hours of work to do, but have some great effects ideas already just by having a quick play.

Depends on what you want to do. Yes if you use it for DJ'ing. No if you want to move corporate with the singing.
Show building capabilities are immense and it can control Martin fixtures and run LED fixtures via dimmers. I have just spent over £800 on 4 LED par cans and have a range of Martin fixtures either on or being added. The MX4's become a really powerful tool at the hands of light jockey as do the LED par cans. Use of hot keys for individual cues, such as bride and groom entry, first dance, etc. Its the building light shows to specific backing tracks that can sync with a media player that is particularly useful, as is the matrix facility if used with touch screen which will start the backing track and light show at the touch of the screen.
Powerful, powerful tool.
Hours of work required, but I have actually gone into geek overdrive now.

For a good versatile touch screen lap top, have a look at a Panasonic tough book CF19 or similar. They are really rugged bits of kit.

Am I allowed to mention Venue Magic? http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-10102.gif Some of the things I can do with my Martin SFX 500's is quite brilliant.

The Martin is obviously a far superior piece of kit :) so if you can afford and treat yourself then that's brilliant :)

Light Jockey was the first DMX software i ever used and is a great piece of software but it's nothing special and as mentioned there are plenty of other very reliable software packages out there but aren't as expensive as dont have the brand Martin stamped on it.

ha ha Yep +1 for Venue Magic - it does all mentioned above but is easier to use thanks to it's timeline based running... Not only does it run audio, video and lighting from within one package It also has a Playlist screen so for singing/bands/tribute acts it's ideal as you can plan the playlist before the gig and during the gig all you need to do is press one button and it will fire your backing tracks and lighting in that order... You can even change the order round by dragging the song into a new place on the list if you change your mind during the gig....
