Best replacement speaker for Mackie SRM 450

Hello everyone,

Ok, I think the cone on one of my SRM450's has gone. If I need to go out and buy a new cone, what would you guys recommend? I'm ok with not getting a Mackie cone, apparently Fane pretty are good. Any suggestions?

Do you have a pair of these ,if you do i would suggest if you only do one it will need to match the other one.Have a look at one of the drivers to see what it is ,you may be surprised as it could be a Emminence.

Dont you mean driver?

As I said earlier check the connection or electronics as i doubt it will have just blown and thats it.
It could simply be a wire has come loose as the tweeter is still working. :)

I have a Tannoy one spare to check if you like?

Id recommend you use the genuine Mackie Driver as the cabinet has been designed and optimised for the genuine driver.
most of the others would simply be a compromise
( just my own personal opinion)

i apologise as
(i didnt follow your link initially as i once bought a Gator Mike case from thoman and it was damaged on arrival so ill NEVER EVER use em again) cheers
as an aside i own 7 Mackie speakers and have never needed either
bass or treble drivers yet despite abusing some of them for years
how did you kill your 450????
By the way be careful with Mackie as loads of their drivers look the same BUT have differing numbers and wildly different specs....just a thought!

If they do ?........... they appear to have spring terminal connectors, so that would be the first thing I'd consider checking. :)

No they do not, Eminence make for Mackie nowadays depending on model,only very old Mackies have RCF when they used to be the same company,as i said take driver out see what it is ,also put a meter on it to see if its open circuit.

The original Italian built Mackies had them in, but back then RCF and Mackie were under the same umbrella.

Update The SRM 450 only takes a 12 1/2" driver so you have to use the proper Mackie replacement part no M1263W a normal 12" will not fit average cost £ 150.

Best option to recone but use a proper company.

I have used Stan on many occasions and he does know what he is doing, but he is expensive and has been know to get things wrong. - Like insisting I'd overdriven a Mackie SWA1501 and killed it, only to find out that some muppet at Mackie had wired it to the wrong impedance.

As he assured me it was my fault and I knew I hadn't been overdriving anything, I thought there must be a problem somewhere in my system and prompted me to replace my whole sound system, costing me thousands, only to find out after that it wasn't my fault.

If you look very close it is made by Eminence for Mackie which is what i said many moons ago £ 264 for a Eminence :eek:fool and there money comes to mind.
