Recommendations for powered speakers

Looking for some suggestions for a decent pair of powered speakers please.

Budget of about £500.00 for the pair, and must be reliable, lightweight (<20kg) and obviously sound good.

What specs are you looking for ?

There are these, that use the D-Class amp system, meaning lightweight.

Make sure you listen to the behringers first as to my opinion i really hated the sound when i listened to them a couple of weeks ago they were really toppy

What sort of power/driver size/spl are you looking for J?

Mackie thumps are worth having a look as they say depends on power requirements?
You could get a lower powered premium brand for that price. RCF art 310a a good suggestion.

I did look at the Behringers as they do seem a bargain, but am concerned about sound quality.

Power wise anything over the 400 watt region I suppose, with a 15in or good 12in main driver.

I think unless you drop lucky on some decent used ones you will be struggling to get the quality for the money. I know you have some nice kit and do some good work for good money, why are you after something on this budget?

Rade the piggy bank and go an extra £100 for some DB Chromo 12s, they're about as good as it gets for £600...in my opinion of course. Ozz is a dealer for them now on 01782 250003.

Yep I bought a brand new LD dave system 10 for a fraction of the cost yesterday. Very pleased.

It has took me 6 months though to find the right deal.

Totally agree Andy - I got my Cromo 12's a few weeks ago. Used them on 2 gigs, and very happy with their sound. Currently looking out for bags for them..

I need to run a side-by-side test with the Mackie 450s this weekend, but they are good back-ups for me, and good value.

This is just to my way of thinking so don't think I'm saying anything is rubbish or whatever, but I have always found the DB range pretty robust and a decent sound, personally I wouldn't be happy letting some of the cheaper brands out on hire. thing is about hire is that you never know how the kit is going to be used and you need to be resonably happy that they can take a bit of abuse and the protection will kick in or even that they will come back working.

Jason give Ozz a call on that number, dunno if he has any bags but he is a dealer or I think I may have seen them on the Absolute Music Solutions site.

Thanks Andy - I'll do that. I used my Mackie 450 Gator bags which were a bit too big (and then couldn't take the 450s...lol, but the Cromos are for backup - but they still need to be kept in good condition.

It sounds like I made the right choice then? With many people rating the W-Audio for budget actives, I was a bit worried- as I simply went on sound quality (and look).

your going to struggle with £500 for 12" 400w speakers new.
them QSC's of Deltics are a good buy but double your budget even at 2nd hand.
I would hold out and save up some more cash.Get the right speakers first time round(unlike me)see I am passing on my knowledge.

I hear a lot of good stuff about the W Audio although personally the sound doesn't suit me.

I keep hearing about these folk that drop lucky on good quality second hand kit but it never happens to me, guess you need to watch the forums and EBay etc.

on my hires i have several pairs of the W Audio PSR12A's, really nice cabs that im happy with. Theyve released the neo version which only weigh 16kg each, i havnt heard these, but according to the sales rep, they sound exactly the same (but not the 15" equivalent)
