MDD & IE9 Problems

Hello

I have been trialling Internet Explorer 9 RC and find that browsing MDD is causing script problems and it takes forever to load any of the pages/forums on MDD ?

Everything runs fine in IE8 and Firefox !!

I'm looking into finding out more about the script problems generate from browsing MDD.

How is MDD causing script problems when the software wasn't written with IE9 in mind? Surely it should be the other way round! :lol:

I was just trying things out on my test rig and came across these problems !!

I'm trying to replicate them again and see if i can get some more info.

This thread is in relation to IE9 and testing of MDD

I'm not testing other browsers at the moment.

On my other test rig IE9 works fine with MDD ?

Seems when i have added it to my main PC using a 64-bit OS there are issues :(

The script is taking longer to run than usual ? whatever that means ?

Oh well, IE9 now of my main PC for now and i'll stick to the testing on my other test rig.

The problem is, it's made by windows. What did you expect?

Use a decent browser and you won't have an issue :)

(chrome and firefox seem to work well, along with safari)

That is not the query !!

There is nothing wrong with Microsoft or Internet Explorer 8, my problems from "testing" are related to IE9 and nothing to do with Firefox, Google Chrome or any other browser .... argh !!!!

There is everything wrong with IE8!!! And every other version of IE for that matter.

All I'm saying is when using IE, you are going to come across random problems for no apparent reason, it's a nightmare for developers.

Solution comes in the form of Chrome :)

You will get random problems with all browsers at some time, this is why we beta test them, of which i am "testing" IE9 with different websites and came across the problems with MDD.

Posting here to see if anyone else has any issues and to share them, i am not interested in other browsers for this test other than IE9.

When i browse i personally use IE8 and Firefox... but my thread is IE9 related only please.

I installed IE9 and I'm having problems with MDD.

'New Posrs' and 'Todays Posts' do not work either in Native or Compatibility mode

PS. Cowlinn. I'm definitely a mac fan but I make avery heallthy living out of Microsoft, thanks very much and 90% of the world rely on it so don't knock it too much :-)
I have problems with safari's cache on my mac and MDD sometimes, so all is not perfect in the mac camp! (And it bizarrely crashed the other day hours before a gig .... Scary!)

I don't know why people would install a new O/S and then say they are having trouble with something. The forum software wasn't built for IE9!

Maybe it's time to update the forum software, to one that works with 2011 browsers?

I haven't installed a new OS. I am still using windows 7, however I have installed the new browser IE9 :D

The forum won't have been designed for IE9, I concede but by testing it (on one machine in my case) does highlight any potential issues with the forum going forward. IE9 is under full release as an optional update. At some point Microsoft will decide in their wisdom to include it in the normal update that's download and install to users machines automatically. At this point the forum software may need to be upgraded to support this.

It is better to know this in advance so that compatibility updates can be scheduled at an appropriate time, rather than have bigger problems later on when the auto update occurs.

Apart from the fact that something like 60% of windoze users are still on XP and will be for some time... And IE9 doesn't work on XP :)

In businesses this holds true for sure, although we are seeing quite a number of w7 migrations going on now and I would expect to see more now that sp1 has arrived.

Just to clear up the forum software works on any os and browser. It's the themes that cause things to break in new browsers. :)

Sadly no. Unless a modded theme was installed then nothing users can do. Apart from not using IE9! (Nothing new that IE is the only browser that has problems with older design coding! When really nothing has changed.)
